Hood National Forest, this destination provides a serene escape for those looking to disconnect from the hustle of city life. The park is characterized by its towering stands of Douglas fir and hemlock, providing ample shade and a sense of seclusion for every visitor. It is a place where the scent of pine and the sound of lapping water define the daily rhythm.
Location & Surroundings
Situated high in the Cascade Range near Sandy, OR, the campground sits at an elevation of approximately 3,200 feet. This location offers a dramatic backdrop featuring stunning views of Mt. Hood reflecting off the clear waters of Timothy Lake. The surrounding terrain is rugged and lush, offering a cool refuge during the summer months. Being positioned away from major highways ensures a quiet, natural atmosphere where the stars are bright and the air is crisp.
Amenities & Park Features
As a more rustic destination, Gone Creek focuses on providing a high-quality dry camping experience. The campground features paved parking pads that can accommodate diverse RV sizes, though there are no hookups available. Essential park features include:

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
The primary draw is Timothy Lake itself, which is one of the few lakes in the area that allows motorized boating with a 10-mph speed limit. Visitors often enjoy paddling, fishing for trout, and swimming in the refreshing mountain water. For land-based adventure, the 13-mile Timothy Lake Trail circles the water and is perfect for hiking or mountain biking. Additionally, a short trek connects campers to the famous Pacific Crest Trail, offering world-class hiking opportunities right from the campground boundary.

This is probably one of the most scenic campgrounds I've ever visited. Even though it was pouring rain, it was still well worth it. It's worth noting that noise carries on water, and some people are really, unnecessarily loud. A guy maybe 20 sites from us was yelling at his poor dogs (Pepper and Ruby, in case you wanted to know) and I think the whole campground felt for those poor dogs. The site hosts the first night, Jason and his wife, were very nice and welcoming. They mentioned the second and third days would be different site hosts, and wow, what a difference. We'd wave, they would look away. We'd say "Good morning!" and smile and they'd fly without acknowledgement by on their (very smelly and loud) utility cart. The last day they even stopped by our site to change our the reservation card and were ten feet from us while we were making breakfast and never responded to our greetings. I just don't get why someone would take such a position with that mentality.

Good camp spots, We have a 24 ft Lazy Days Motorhome that had no trouble. (Other than a bit of heavy leveling) Awesome hosts who keep the place well maintained (the pit toilets are the cleanest I've ever encountered). The hiking trails are well maintained, the lake is beautiful and clear, (Just be sure to get your kayak to the shoreline before the early afternoon winds pick up, or you will exert more energy digging deep to get back to land working against the wind and choppy water 😉) The view of Mt Hood was gorgeous! AND do not miss.... The stars shining SO freaking bright over the lake on a clear night!! Just sayin...I had a peaceful easy feeling 😊

This is one of the cleanest, most well maintained campgrounds I have ever been to. The bathrooms were clean and fresh and well stocked too. The views were stunning. Camp hosts were on the ball and courteous. Love it here.

Just returned from a three day trip. We had a wonderful time on our first trip to Timothy Lake. There was a lot to do between swimming, hiking, mountain biking and relaxing by the water. There are lots of camping options around the lake. There is even a trail that circles the lake...about 13 miles.

Beautiful views of Mt. Hood. Very clean campground and a friendly host. Has fire pits with grill covers and great campsites on the like side. This was the perfect place for a kid friendly car camping trip.
