Nakusp Hot Springs Campground

Overview

Nakusp Hot Springs Campground offers a serene escape within the lush Selkirk Mountains of British Columbia. Owned and operated by the Village of Nakusp, this destination is celebrated for its mineral-rich thermal pools and its location within a tranquil old-growth forest. Travelers seeking a slower pace will find the park provides a rare opportunity to disconnect from digital distractions while remaining deeply connected to the natural landscape of the Kootenays. It is a destination where the primary focus is rejuvenation and immersion in the mountain wilderness.

Location & Surroundings

The park is situated approximately twelve kilometers northeast of the village of Nakusp, tucked away in the Kuskanax River Valley. The drive up Hot Springs Road leads visitors through a dense canopy of cedar and hemlock trees, eventually opening up to a secluded canyon setting. The sounds of the rushing Kuskanax Creek provide a constant, soothing backdrop for the campground, making the environment feel world’s away from the nearest highway while still being accessible to the amenities of town.

Amenities & Park Features

The campground accommodates various camping styles with a mix of serviced and unserviced spots. The facilities are designed to complement the rustic environment while providing necessary comforts. Featured amenities include:

  • Power and water hookups available for RVs and travel trailers.
  • Access to clean washrooms and heated shower facilities for all guests.
  • Individual picnic tables and fire pits at each site for a classic camping experience.

The primary draw remains the two outdoor thermal pools, which are just a short walk from the campsites and offer varying temperatures for a customized soaking experience under the forest canopy.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Beyond the soothing waters, the area is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts. Hikers can explore the Kuskanax Creek Footbridge or challenge themselves on the trail leading to Kimbol Lake. A short drive back to the village of Nakusp provides access to the expansive Arrow Lakes, where visitors can enjoy boating, fishing, or walking the scenic waterfront promenade. For those interested in regional history, the nearby Nakusp Museum provides insights into the local heritage and the importance of the waterways to early settlers.

Who This Park Is Best For

This campground is an ideal match for travelers who prioritize nature and wellness over high-speed connectivity or modern resort-style entertainment. It is particularly suited for couples looking for a peaceful retreat and small families who enjoy hiking and swimming in natural settings. Because of the winding mountain road and the forested terrain, it is best for those with mid-sized RVs or camper vans who appreciate a quiet, rustic atmosphere centered around the healing properties of natural hot springs.

First stay at nakusp hotsprings was amazing! It really exceeded my expectations. The staff were so friendly upon arrival, the facility was warm, inviting and spotless. Our A-frame cabin was so charming, the kids loved the spiral staircase up to their loft. The beds were clean and comfy. The kitchen was stocked with all the essentials we needed to make our meals and included everything to make a cup of coffee in the morning. The pool itself was clean and I so appreciated the non detectable amount of chlorine. There were plenty of pool noodles to go around and it was the perfect atmosphere to both relax and be entertaining for the kids. We will definitely be booking again in the future

Rustic chalets, great staff, campsites close to pool, stunning location. All reasonably priced. One of my favorite places we go at least twice a year-chaet in winter and campsite in summer.

Only used the hot springs in the month of December at the last two hours, therefore our perspective could be limited. However, we also visited Halcyon the next day, and the clear winner is Halcyon, by our seven years old daughter, who has incredible taste towards quality. It is quite scary to drive up there in a winter night when the road was covers by a thin layer of snow. It felt forever before we finally got there. Staff were polite and knowledgeable, which definitely fits the small town profile. Considering it is a village community operated facility, it is much better than those in bigger cities. Kudos to Nakusp village! We did not stay there as those chalets are extremely popular. Would definitely be interested in one more visit during the daytime.

Dear Nakusp Hot Springs Team, ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ As proud locals and owners of Bear Ridge Cabins just down the road, we can’t sing the praises of Nakusp Hot Springs enough! This place is an absolute gem, and after 18 years in Nakusp, it still feels as magical as the first day we visited. The staff is always incredibly kind, friendly, and welcoming, creating such a warm atmosphere. The change rooms are spotlessly clean, and everyone we encounter is so pleasant, making every visit a joy. We love sharing this tranquil, beautiful spot with our family and friends—it’s the perfect place to unwind and soak in the serenity. The scenic drive to get here is a treat in itself, and that stunning walking trail just steps from the hot springs is the cherry on top. We’re so grateful to call Nakusp home and to have the village run such an exceptional facility. We feel so lucky to have this slice of paradise right in our backyard. Thank you for keeping it so wonderful—we’ll be back again and again! With heartfelt thanks, The Bear Ridge Cabins Team

Lovely hot springs in the mountains, great views all around when you are in the hot springs. I did find myself wishing there was a cold pool to cool off between dips in the springs, especially as the day was warming up. Loved the walk to the historic source, which has recently been board-walked in several spots. Stunning mossy forest!
