Nathan Bedford Forrest

Overview

Nathan Bedford Forrest State Park offers a serene escape on the shores of the Tennessee River. Spanning over 2,500 acres, this park is a haven for those who appreciate natural beauty and regional history. It provides a peaceful setting for RVers looking to reconnect with nature while enjoying the expansive water views of Kentucky Lake. The park is well-regarded for its quiet atmosphere and rugged terrain, making it a staple for outdoor enthusiasts visiting West Tennessee.

Location & Surroundings

Situated in Eva, TN, the park sits on the western bank of the river valley. The landscape is defined by steep hills and dense hardwood forests that overlook the water. It is a remote destination that offers a break from city noise, making the Pilot Knob overlooks some of the highest points in the region. These vantage points provide panoramic views of the water, which is particularly striking during the autumn foliage season.

Amenities & Park Features

RV travelers typically stay at the Happy Hollow Campground, which features sites equipped with water and electrical hookups. The park provides essential facilities including modern bathhouses, a dump station, and a playground for families traveling with children. Each site is nestled within the trees, offering a rustic and private atmosphere. For those traveling with watercraft, the public boat ramp provides easy access to the massive reservoir for a day of exploration on the water.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

The park is home to the Tennessee River Folk Life Center, a museum dedicated to the customs and traditions of the people who lived along the river. Outdoor enthusiasts can explore over 20 miles of hiking trails that wind through the wilderness. Fishing is a major draw here, as Kentucky Lake is famous for its crappie and bass fishing opportunities. Visitors can also learn about local history by visiting the site of the Civil War Battle of Johnsonville located nearby.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is ideal for nature lovers and history buffs who prefer a quiet, wooded environment over a commercial resort. It is a fantastic choice for anglers and boaters wanting direct access to one of the largest man-made lakes in the country. Because the terrain is somewhat hilly, it is best suited for RVers who enjoy a traditional state park experience with plenty of opportunities for active recreation like hiking and birdwatching.

Decided to go by here today spur of the moment so didn't have a lot of time. It's a great place (what we got to see so far anyway.) Teressa at the park office and Ranger/Officer ? Justice were sooooo welcoming and informative- perfect for their positions imo! We are going back Friday evening for a kayak excursion. Beautiful scenery and more to do than time allowed today. Can't wait to go back 😀

I'm a tent camper so this applies to either car, camping or tent camping. If this is your style, then you want to take the lakefront campground. I would highly recommend either fifty-five or fifty-four. Peace, quiet, and beauty! The Sunrise over the lake is exquisite. If you enjoy glamping, there is a nice RV area and there are also cabins. There are hiking trails, lots of things to do.Their showers. Great place for a weekend or a week.Check it out.

Beautiful little campground nestled in a wooded area off the beaten path. Campsites are about to undergo a major renovation in July🤞🤞🤞, but for the most part are level. Pay attention to how long each site is when you reserve, some are pretty narrow and short. Wifi is included-password is located on the bulletin board. Go to the Pilot lookout for a spectacular view of the lake-lots to see inside! The lakeside campsites-no hookups yet, are very cool. A perfect place for tenting and tear-drops.

Last visit for a while, at Happy Hollow Campground. They'll be shutting down in a few weeks for renovation. We'll are already excited for the reopening. They've already made several pull through spaces, and campsite sewer is in the reno plans !! Our favorite Campground. Not too far from home, and we have loved the staff here.
