Ponderosa studded shaded walkways, make this fairgrounds one of our favorite! Whether you’re there for the fair, to walk your dog around the miles of paved pathways, enjoying a run through the sprinklers on the acres of flat grass areas with the kids, bringing your toddler to the tall pines nursery school or just appreciating this northern California gem you will be pleasantly surprised! When traveling with tent or RV don’t forget about the Nevada county fairgrounds RV Park nestled right next-door complete with a pond for fishing and plenty of ducks and geese wildlife galore! Parking is free and very spacious grounds allows for a great walk on a sunny day amongst the ponderosas.

We stayed at the Nevada County Fairgrounds RV campground for a couple days when there were no events on the property. The level gravel space gave enough room for our 5th wheel, tow vehicle, and any tables, chairs, etc. we could have wanted. There's a nice pond next to the camping area with a gravel path around it that we walked the dogs around. A few campers and community members were fishing and walking dogs too. There is a small flock of geese on site that weren't a problem, though they did leave "treats" around that dogs seemed drawn to... We had full hookups with a choice of 50, 30, or 20 Amp plugs, good water and an easy access sewer connection. We did not go into the bathrooms since we had full hookups. The staff who answered the phone and checked us in were very friendly. We would definitely stay here again!

I attended the 2023 Draft Horse Classic on Saturday morning, was a bit underwhelmed. I will start off by saying, the grounds are very beautiful, but the admissions and food prices they charge are too high. You can avoid the $10 parking fee by parking in the gravel lot across the street, but I think there should just be a $10 fee to cover ALL events. The horse show shouldn't cost more than $5.00. I heard some people complain that they asked for general admission tickets and were charged the reserved seating price. I don't know why they even have reserved seating as people ended up moving anyways. The arena is poorly designed. Unless you sit at or near the very top, you'll be directly in the sun, despite being under the roof. We ended up sweating, getting sunburned and feeling sick from sitting almost two hours in the sun. Then the shows and competions were a little disappointing, aside from two events. The riders ride right on the edge of the arena, so when they are closest to you, they are completely obscured. They should ride closer to the center of the arena. The horses were beautiful, but I was expecting a more elaborate event with costumed riders, large wagons and convoys, and was a little disappointed. I'm surprised this event is so popular. The "competitions" were a joke. The Cowboy and Mexicans were the only performers worth watching. I make a notion that they invite an Argentine gaucho.
