🌲 New Germany State Park: A Hidden Gem in Western Maryland Nestled near Grantsville, Maryland, New Germany State Park offers a peaceful retreat with a mix of outdoor adventure and relaxation. Visitors rave about its: - 🛶 Scenic lake perfect for swimming, kayaking, and fishing - 🚶‍♀️ Well-maintained trails for all skill levels - 🏕️ Spacious campsites with fire rings and picnic tables - 🐾 Pet-friendly Hemlock Loop, known for its quiet charm - 🚿 Clean facilities, though some reviews note occasional maintenance issues Whether you're hiking, unplugging in nature, or enjoying ranger-led events, this park is praised as “well kept, low key and super relaxing”. Just be aware—cell service is limited, so it’s a true digital detox.

Fantastic State Park. The cabins are really nice, and newly renovated. The park trails are excellent, well marked making it difficult to get lost. Would come back again and again!

Beautiful quiet park, looks almost the same as it did from my childhood. Spent nearly every summer weekend there. There are many trails to walk with your dog, watch out for the tree roots coming up out of the ground. Peaceful and serene, it’s a must visit.

My husband and I recently had a lovely day here. We found it quiet, calm, and relaxing. The lake is not overly large or deep. There was one lifeguard in attendance during our entire stay. Clean, well-maintained public areas; beautiful scenery; bathrooms, snacks, canoe rental are within walking distance. Parking was easy. Cell phone use is NOT available. A plus if you're looking for a true get-away! There is a public phone booth available, though 😄

Great site, and our experience of staying in Cabin 11 was perfect, No real complaints to be had. There was more sleeping space than would be indicated when booking, the amenities were included like soap and pots/pans/plates/cups, and cooking essentials were included like stove/oven/microwave/dish washer/fridge and freezer. The cabin we were in was overlooking the lake with a 30 second walk, so the area was great as well. Only thing to note is the area has no cell service as also indicated in the booking page, but the lake house, about a minute walk away and visible from the cabin, has reliable wifi. Highly enjoyed and fully worth a visit.

Beautiful park with a small lake. I only stopped while travelling through, but I'd definitely like to explore more in the future. They have a small nature center right by the lake.

Super great experience! The park rangers were super nice, the cabins were all clean and stocked and everything was stunning. Really appreciate that they have pet friendly cabins (as did my dog) but the amount of stairs to get to the cabin with a dog was a bit treacherous haha. The park itself was beautiful, my sister rented two shelters and one of them had a fireplace which was super nice since it was a bit chilly. All in all good experience! (Except when I had to take my dog out at night and was afraid of being eaten by a bear)

Great park with a cool educational center, a cute beach, and well kept trail. I took the 1 mile Orchard trail which is close to the beach. A nice school house to check out, a playground, a few picnic areas, easy parking, canoe/kayak rentals, about 12(?) cabins and very helpful rangers.

We were in Cabin 1 in mid December during the week. The park was vert quiet. We stayed in the cabin almost the whole time. It was as comfortable as a hotel suite. The kitchen was equipped enough for us. The cabin was surprisingly warm with baseboard heating and we used the fireplace several times. The only complaint is that it could do with a new mattress. Highly recommended as a getaway. You don't get cell service in the park which was a blessing for us, but may not be for you.

Absolutely beautiful park Great hikes. The lake is beautiful We rented a canoe and caught two fish! So happy that the American volkswarding association chose this as one of their walks. It was a great part to visit I definitely want to go back to Maryland to check out more of their state parks I was presently surprised.
