Newport / I-40 / Smoky Mountains KOA Journey

Welcome to Newport Smoky Mtn KOA. We are located at the foothills of the Smoky Mountains and a short drive from Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge & Cherokee, N.C. We have a large variety of different site types.

Spend a day, a week, or even a month in the heart of the Appalachian Mountains, home of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, the crown jewel of the eastern U.S. park system. Swim in the sparkling pool or shoot some hoops. If you would rather, grab some friends and pitch horseshoes or play a few rounds of cornhole. Feel free to grab one of our activity calendars and join in some fun. There are many options to choose from. We also have several different items available in the office so boredom won't be an option. Laze around in the heated and air-conditioned one or two-room Cabins, or park your RV on one of our large, shady sites. Tent Sites can be found sprinkled around our grounds to accommodate all visitors. Hang out in Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, Forbidden Caverns, and Dollywood Theme Park, or stop by dozens of the shops only minutes away. If you have the time, Tanger Outlet Mall is located in the heart of Pigeon Forge. Hike in the Cherokee National Forest, or go boating, fishing and rafting on the Tennessee Valley Authority lakes. Bring your boats and Jet Skis; we have a boat launch less than 10 minutes away and this family-friendly KOA has secure additional parking. The Pigeon, French Broad, and Nolichucky Rivers reflect the beautiful mountain scenery and offer optimal freshwater fishing. Pets are welcome too! Pool: May 20 - September 15. Max pull thru is 84 feet. We do offer off-season extended stays (90 days max). Feel free to give Karla a call for more details.

When I called to book a site, I explained that my motorhome did not have a leveling system. The very friendly staff put me in the most level spot they had available, offered suggestions for leveling block placement, and checked up on me later to make sure that it was OK.

Super nice gentleman that helped me get a spot and the showers are very clean. Other than the interstate this is a quit campground. I was on that side but it wasn't bad at all considering I was in a tent. Check them out and the rate is great. Thanks for everything.

Cons: gravel site was mostly grass that hadn't been mown in some time; Water connection was just inches above the ground making it difficult to make connection (I pulled away grass/weeds to comfortably get to it); place seemed run down; while appears to be just off I-40, it's a bit of a twisty drive to get there. Pros: Nice greeting when we arrived; bathroom and showers are very new.

Rented a cabin for the weekend. Had mini fridge , AC, small sink and toilet. Friendly staff. Well kept grounds. No pool, pond(pond is gone)or dog park(that we could find). Great location to all the activities in the area and lake Douglas, without being in all the traffic. You can hear the interstate from outside the cabin. Very small KOA. Remodeled showers very nice. It has a lot of potential but right now not many amenities. Nearby downtown Newport is nice and still has a lot of cute shops open on main Street. Overall satisfied with stay.

We rented a cabin with a half bath for 3 days. We arrived early and they had the most wonderful hospitality. The bathroom/shower house was amazingly clean and very beautiful. The location was perfect view of mountains and close to NC and TN fun.
