Nopiming Park/Beresford Lake Campground

Overview

Nopiming Provincial Park, which means "entrance to the wilderness" in Anishinabe, lives up to its name at the Beresford Lake Campground. Located in the heart of eastern Manitoba’s rugged landscape, this destination offers a true escape from the bustle of city life. RVers visiting this region will find themselves surrounded by the ancient rock of the Canadian Shield and the dense greenery of the boreal forest. It is a place where nature takes center stage, offering a quiet atmosphere and a deep connection to the outdoors.

Location & Surroundings

Situated within the vast expanse of Nopiming Park near Oakbank, MB, the campground is tucked away along the shores of Beresford Lake. Reaching this remote spot involves traveling on gravel access roads, which adds to the sense of adventure and seclusion. The surroundings are characterized by jagged rock ridges, pristine waterways, and a diverse range of wildlife, including moose and timber wolves. It provides a stunning backdrop for those looking to experience the raw beauty of Manitoba’s eastern border region.

Amenities & Park Features

As a rustic destination, Beresford Lake Campground focuses on essential facilities rather than luxury. The campground features unserviced sites that are well-suited for self-contained RVs and campers who prefer a traditional experience. Key features of the park include:

  • Access to a functional boat launch for easy lake entry.
  • A dedicated fish cleaning station for successful anglers.
  • Basic necessities such as pit toilets and water hand pumps.

This setup ensures that visitors can enjoy the wilderness while having the fundamental tools needed for a comfortable stay.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Water-based activities are the primary draw here, with Beresford Lake being a popular spot for walleye and northern pike fishing. For those who prefer to stay on land, the park offers several hiking trails that wind through the forest and over rocky outcrops. Exploring the nearby Walking Lake or taking a scenic drive further into Nopiming Park allows visitors to discover hidden waterfalls and historic mining sites. Canoeing and kayaking are also highly recommended to fully appreciate the scenery.

Who This Park Is Best For

This campground is an ideal choice for backcountry enthusiasts and RVers who enjoy a boondocking style of camping. Because there are no power or water hookups, it is best for travelers with self-contained units who value peace and quiet over modern conveniences. It is a fantastic destination for avid anglers and nature photographers looking to capture the spirit of the Canadian wilderness without the crowds found in more developed provincial parks.

Very private campgrounds. Very few facilities. You need to bring everything with you to camp here. If you like camping with peace and quiet then this campsite is for you. Outhouses for washrooms. No showers but I washed myself off the boat launch in the lake. Getting there is an adventure. You will be constantly surrounded by wilderness wherever you go so best be prepared for anything when going up here. Great fishing/camping spot

Beautiful, some facilities are a little outdated, but they seem to be working on that.

This campground is very beautiful and has some nice camping sites. However there are a few things to keep in mind if you camp here. First, the road is gravel and very twisty. Especially between Beresford and Lac du Bonnet. So drive carefully. We arrived coming from Bisset and the road is less twisty and bumpy that way but it’s a bit longer drive. We didn’t know we were supposed to check in at Black Lake which is about 35 minutes away. We arrived at Beresford in the evening and then went to Black Lake the next morning to check in. You get one bag of free firewood a night which is nice. Beresford campground has NO modern amenities. Bring extra toilet paper and your own hand sanitizer. The men’s outhouse had zero hand sanitizer. There was enough toilet paper but it got low. There is zero cell service. There are no stores or gas stations nearby. I believe the closest one is Trappers. The water from the pump is from the lake and needs to be boiled. So bring enough drinking water with you. There is a nice fishing spot but we didn’t catch any fish. We were told it’s a bad year for fishing. You can swim off the rocks too but we didn’t end up swimming.
