We came with my parents in their 70s and our 3 and 6 year old daughters. Everyone had a perfect time. The front desk was wonderful and the cabin was clean and well equipped. We didn’t even get to any of the super fun stuff like canoe rental and fishing. We just enjoyed the grounds and nature around us. We’ll be back for more!

We found Nor'Wester with good friends when our daughter was two. The lodge fit us perfectly - good fishing/portage opportunities for the dads and a sand beach and play areas for all of us. The fit was so good we have returned with the family each year since that summer of1982, the size of our group expanding with the generations. The beach and playground can occupy the kids' attention all day. Poplar lake is just one portage from the BWCA for those who want to expand the range of their fishing experience. It's a special place.

My husband and I have been vacationing at the Nor’Wester Lodge for 26 years. It is the one week we look forward to every year. Carl, Luana, and Kirby are excellent host and hostess. They are genuine and excited to make our vacation delightful. Carl is eager to share a cup of coffee with you….and just maybe he will tell where the fish are biting 😊 If fishing is not your thing there are plenty of other activities; canoeing, boating, hiking, and berry picking. It is truly the perfect place to escape from a busy schedule we keep the rest of the year. Dogs are WELCOME- Our labs love to swim in the lake. There is a huge private beach and you can swim in the lake. The cabins are all decorated beautifully, very clean and supplied with the cookware and the dishes you need. Towels are provided and there is a HOT shower waiting at the end of long day on the lake. I would encourage you to book your next vacation at the Nor’Wester Lodge. The Gebels, Eldridge IA

Unorganized. What a Mickey Mouse operation they’ve got going on. Rented canoes for a few days and paid an arm and a leg. On top of that they charged me $75 to patch a scratch on the canoe that was already there. I guess their business model is to get you for as much as they can while they got you there. Repeat business isn’t what they’re after.

For the Owner, Thank you So much for having us. We were scheduled for a week but my pacemaker had other plans for us. Everyone else!! This is a really fun place to relax and get away frome it all!! The staff here will have your back and accommodate you the best they can. I will go back and I hope soon! Nor'Wester thank you for the fun I did have!

We had a very disappointing experience with our BWCA Outfitting and gear rentals from Nor'wester. The canoe and sleeping pad they gave us were both really old and worn out, definitely not even close to the quality that we've rented from other outfitters in the area before (but they charge the same price). The canoe shoulder pad was ripped and broke off which was a painful experience for portaging. They don't rent spot/gps devices like other outfitters do, and their store wasn't even open so we couldn't buy the last minute things we needed. The guys working werent very knowledgeable about the entry points and routes nearby, much less farther away. I think this could be a safety issue for newcomers to the bwca, luckily we've been in before so could figure it out. When I commented about our issues, the management did not apologize, or even seem to care. Would not recommend using them as an outfitter for bwca trips, there are much better outfitters in the area.

This was our second year of coming to this outfitters cabin. Owners are very accommodating. The snow was a beautiful site. The cabin was clean and gave a home feeling, very comforting. The cabin was equipped with household essentials which made the trip a lot easier. When leaving we got stuck twice in the snow and their employees were very helpful and did not give up until we were unstuck and out on the road. We plan to make this our yearly destination for our vacation.

My family has stayed here for 3 years in a row when we've come up for a snowmobile trip. This year I forgot to bring my snowmobile boots. The owner graciously gave me a pair of hers to use. We went on a 200 mile round trip the next day. Every time we have come up she has shown us so much hospitality. We also love staying in the condos because they are clean, have a kitchen space, multiple bathrooms, a full kitchen and two bathrooms which is nice when you have a group your staying with. I cannot recommend a better place to stay.
