North Fork Park (Weber County Park)
Overview
North Fork Park provides a rugged escape into the mountains of Northern Utah. Located near Eden, this sprawling county park is widely recognized as an International Dark Sky Park, offering some of the best stargazing opportunities in the region. Unlike traditional RV resorts, this destination prioritizes a deep connection with nature and preserves a quiet, wilderness atmosphere for visitors seeking a true break from the city. It serves as a gateway to the high-alpine terrain of the Wasatch Range.
Location & Surroundings
Tucked away in the scenic Ogden Valley, the park sits at the base of the majestic Ben Lomond Peak. The surrounding landscape is characterized by dense groves of maple and scrub oak, which transform into vibrant colors during the autumn months. Its high-elevation setting provides a cooler retreat during the summer heat, while the surrounding canyons offer a sense of seclusion despite being a short drive from the small community of Eden. The park’s geography makes it feel like a remote wilderness despite its proximity to urban centers.
Amenities & Park Features
The park is designed for dry camping, meaning there are no electrical or water hookups available at the sites. RVers should arrive prepared with full tanks and battery power. Each site features a fire ring and a picnic table, with vault toilets and seasonal water spigots located throughout the loops. The true amenity here is the access to extensive trail systems including:
- Over 20 miles of multi-use trails for hiking and biking.
- Dedicated winter corridors for Nordic skiing and snowshoeing.
- Designated areas for equestrian use and wildlife viewing.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Outdoor enthusiasts will find plenty to do just minutes from the park boundaries. The Pineview Reservoir is a popular spot for boating and fishing, while the nearby ski resorts of Powder Mountain and Nordic Valley offer year-round recreation. For those looking for a bit of local culture, the town of Eden offers charming shops and dining options that capture the mountain valley lifestyle. Additionally, the nearby Ogden River Scenic Byway provides a stunning drive through narrow canyons and limestone cliffs.
Who This Park Is Best For
This park is ideal for travelers who prefer a primitive camping experience over luxury amenities. It is a perfect fit for smaller RVs, camper vans, or rooftop tents that can navigate the winding park roads and don't require hookups. If you are a stargazing enthusiast or an avid hiker who wants trail access right from your doorstep, North Fork Park offers a serene, quiet environment that larger, commercial parks cannot match. It is best suited for those who value solitude and mountain vistas above all else.

I love Northfork Park. I run a lot of trails, and some of my favorites in the park are the Bicentennial, Mule Ear, Mule Shoe, Ben Lomond, and Cutler Creek trails. Spring is green and fresh. Summer evenings are mild if not cool, and fall days are brilliant and crisp. The Trails Foundation of Northern Utah has been hard at work repairing bridges and maintaining trails this summer. The Ogden Nordic Ski Club maintains the trails in the winter for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. I've seen moose, deer, wild turkeys, skunks, rabbits, hawks, and owls. Day use picnic areas are available and restrooms as well.

It's a great, quiet campground with lots of open space. It's maintained pretty well, though obviously it is a campground, so the roads are dirt much of the time, and some of the fire pits aren't present. I recommend it though. Bear in mind that there is no reservation. I came on a weekday so it wasn't busy though.

North Fork is excellent! Great for mountain biking 💛, hiking, cross country skiing, launching for back country skiing. All of it is excellent and well maintained. There are moose, oodles of birds, cougar sightings (human and four legged - jokes), snakes, etc.

North fork is a great park, I love to come here and ride my fat bike during the year. Not just since snow but also during the summer time opens up a whole different set of scenery and technical skills. And if you're lucky you might see a moose or two while you're out there riding or running.

Been coming up here since I was just a baby with my family going camping. We just recently had a family reunion up here and it’s a beautiful place to go. We found a trail and walked down to the stream and that ended up being the highlight of the trip. Everyone went down there and played and cooled off and got wet and had water fights!!!
