North Of Highland
Overview
North Of Highland Camping Area provides a serene, wooded retreat located in the picturesque town of North Truro on the outer reaches of Cape Cod. Set across 26 acres of lush greenery, this family-oriented campground is a premier gateway to the Cape Cod National Seashore. It offers a traditional camping experience that emphasizes a genuine connection with the outdoors. Travelers often return year after year for the sense of seclusion and the refreshing shade provided by the dense canopy of pine trees.
Location & Surroundings
The park is exceptionally positioned just a short, scenic walk from Head of the Meadow Beach, one of the most beautiful stretches of sand in Massachusetts. This strategic location allows guests to enjoy the sounds of the Atlantic coastline without needing to find beach parking. The surrounding landscape consists of rolling sand dunes and protected coastal forests, creating a distinctively peaceful New England atmosphere. It is also conveniently located near the extensive Provincelands Bike Trail system.
Amenities & Park Features
As a rustic destination focused on the natural environment, the park provides clean, modern bathhouses equipped with hot showers and a convenient laundry facility. There is a camp store on-site for ice, wood, and daily essentials, alongside a recreation hall for community gatherings. It is important for travelers to note that the park offers no utility hookups at the sites. This makes it a preferred destination for those who enjoy dry camping in a quiet, well-managed setting that values tranquility.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Just a short drive or bike ride away is the vibrant town of Provincetown, famous for its art galleries, diverse dining, and whale-watching excursions. Visitors can also explore the historic Highland Lighthouse, which offers stunning views of the surrounding ocean from its high bluffs. For those who enjoy active travel, the nearby dunes provide miles of hiking opportunities through unique ecosystems. The area serves as a perfect hub for exploring the maritime history and unique ecology of the Outer Cape.
Who This Park Is Best For
This campground is perfect for van lifers and owners of small campers who appreciate a quiet, unplugged environment. Because the park primarily accommodates units under 28 feet, it maintains a peaceful, low-traffic vibe that is rare in busier tourist hubs. It is ideal for solo travelers, couples, or families who want to prioritize beach access and nature over luxury amenities. If you prefer an authentic camping experience under a canopy of stars, this is your ideal Cape Cod home base.

Very close to the beach just a short walk. Camp sites are big and bathrooms are nice. Also has showers, laundry, recreational area with ping pong and pool tables. There is a playground for the kids and quite area for adults with wifi. Would highly recommend this campground.

Well appointed campground, quick walk from the beach in a great area. A bit pricy (paid $59 for tent site), but it's a good spot. Close to the ocean, the area itself is secluded, but the tent sites may not be totally secluded from one another if that makes sense as you will probably have neighbors!

This is my 6th summer coming to this campground and i have to say its the best. Its clean, its convenient, a bike ride from the beach, all the amenities you NEED are there. Showers, bathrooms, laundry, etc. I will say that if you are looking for a party spot this isnt the place, but if you are looking for a true relaxing getaway/reset from life, come here. Its truly the best campground I've ever been to. Will come back for the rest of my life.

We just returned from our 2nd time camping here and again we loved everything about North of Highland - the owners & staff were very friendly & helpful, our campsite was perfect, surrounded by trees, short walk to ocean & beautiful Head of the Meadow beach and it’s conveniently a short drive to our favourite towns & beaches of Provincetown & Wellfleet. Only 7 hours from Montreal & we hope to return later this summer!
