North Woods Park (Bremer County Park)
Overview
North Woods Park is a serene 80-acre escape managed by Bremer County Conservation in the heart of northeast Iowa. This destination offers a peaceful alternative to busy commercial campgrounds, providing a classic outdoor experience centered around the winding Little Wapsipinicon River. Travelers looking for a genuine connection with nature will appreciate the well-maintained grounds, the dense timber shade, and the quiet atmosphere that defines this local treasure. It serves as a perfect home base for those seeking a slower pace of life during their RV journey.
Location & Surroundings
Located just a few miles northeast of Sumner, IA, the park sits in a region characterized by fertile farmland and rolling river valleys. The entrance leads visitors into a heavily wooded area that feels remarkably secluded despite being easily accessible from local county roads. The Little Wapsipinicon River meanders directly through the property, creating a lush corridor for local wildlife and providing a beautiful backdrop for morning walks. The surrounding landscape remains quiet and rural, making it an ideal spot for those who enjoy the sounds of the forest.
Amenities & Park Features
The campground offers spacious sites equipped with electrical hookups, including options for both 30 and 50-amp service to accommodate various rig sizes. While the sites are designed for a more rustic experience, campers have access to shared water hydrants and a convenient on-site dump station for waste management. The park features a network of hiking trails that wind through the timber and along the riverbank. Families can enjoy the modern playground and several picnic shelters that are perfect for group gatherings, while basic vault toilets are available throughout the grounds.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
The primary draw for many visitors is the river fishing, where anglers can spend hours on the banks of the Little Wapsipinicon. Beyond the park borders, the nearby town of Sumner offers small-town charm with local diners and essential shops for stocking up on supplies. Nature enthusiasts often make the short drive to the Sweet Marsh Wildlife Area, a massive wetland complex known for exceptional birding and photography opportunities. The region is also popular for its scenic gravel cycling routes that traverse the picturesque Bremer County countryside.
Who This Park Is Best For
This destination is ideal for nature-loving RVers who prefer a rustic, quiet atmosphere over high-energy resort amenities. It is a fantastic choice for families looking for an affordable getaway where children can explore the woods and play by the river. Because of its tranquil environment, it also suits solo travelers and retirees who want a low-key stopover while exploring the hidden gems of Iowa. If you value privacy, mature trees, and a peaceful night under the stars, this county park will likely fit your travel style perfectly.

Very clean and cared for bath/shower house here. A new row of modern camper sites were under construction during my visit in Sept. ‘21 and will probably be very popular next season. This is a great county park!
