Northwestern Michigan Fair Association Campground
Overview
The Northwestern Michigan Fair Association Campground offers a relaxed and unpretentious camping experience just a short drive from the heart of Traverse City. Situated on the historic fairgrounds, this facility serves as a peaceful home base for exploring the diverse landscapes of Northern Michigan. Unlike high-density commercial resorts, this park provides a sense of openness and a rural charm that reflects the region’s agricultural heritage. It is a seasonal destination where the pace of life slows down significantly, allowing visitors to enjoy the natural beauty of the area.
Location & Surroundings
Located south of the city center in Blair Township, the campground is surrounded by verdant woodlands and rolling farm fields. This positioning allows travelers to avoid the heavy traffic of the waterfront while remaining within a ten-minute drive of major shopping and dining corridors. The site feels secluded and quiet, yet it offers easy access to the primary highways that lead to the area's famous peninsulas and the sandy shores of Lake Michigan. It is a perfect spot for those who want to be near the action without staying in the middle of it.
Amenities & Park Features
The park is designed with functionality in mind, offering a variety of level grassy sites that can accommodate larger motorhomes and trailers. Guests have access to essential features that make for a comfortable stay:
- 30 and 50-amp electrical hookups to accommodate different rig requirements.
- Shared water access points located conveniently throughout the grounds.
- A clean and accessible dump station for guest use.
- On-site restroom and shower facilities maintained for cleanliness.
These features provide the necessary comforts for a successful stay while maintaining a simple, outdoorsy atmosphere that highlights the natural setting.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Staying here places you perfectly for day trips to Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore or the scenic wineries of the Old Mission and Leelanau Peninsulas. Downtown Traverse City is famous for its vibrant culinary scene, boutique shopping, and the annual National Cherry Festival. For outdoor enthusiasts, the nearby Boardman River offers excellent opportunities for kayaking, fishing, and hiking along its scenic banks, providing endless entertainment for nature lovers.
Who This Park Is Best For
This campground is an excellent choice for independent travelers who value space and affordability over luxury resort amenities. It is particularly well-suited for families attending local equestrian events or the fair, as well as big-rig owners looking for easy navigation and large footprints. Between the price increase on everything and the inconsideration that the younger generation has when it comes to respect it just isn't the same as when I was growing up. Tried taking our two girls who almost got trampled by a couple teenage boys that after confronted on almost running over our girls they wanted to start a fight. 😔🤯 My 7 and 6 year old have more respect then some of the teenage kids and it scares me.

Have been going since I was a kid and love it! I especially enjoy taking my son. They have a mom friendly space for diaper changes, breastfeeding, and it has ac which is very accommodating!

The Northwest Michigan Fair has been my fair since I was a little girl. Now my youngest Son and I meet up with our extended Family to spend a day making memories that we’ll cherish forever! The midway and rides are always clean and well kept. The 4H group does an excellent job on their exhibits - keeping farm animals clean and presentable. The options of food are almost overwhelming but it’s so wonderful how there’s something for everyone! I love all the treasured years and memories from here!
