Okefenokee RV Park
Overview
Okefenokee RV Park offers a welcoming and peaceful retreat in Southeast Georgia, serving as a primary gateway for those exploring the unique ecosystem of the south. Known for its southern hospitality and shaded grounds, this park provides a relaxed environment that contrasts with busier coastal resorts. Whether you are passing through on your way to Florida or staying for an extended season, it is an ideal base for travelers who appreciate a slower pace of life amidst the natural beauty of the Georgia pines.
Location & Surroundings
Situated in the small community of Homeland, Georgia, just north of Folkston, the park is conveniently located along Highway 1. This strategic position places visitors only minutes away from the eastern entrance of the legendary Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge. The surrounding landscape is characterized by towering longleaf pines and a quiet rural atmosphere. The proximity to local diners and small-town shops in nearby Folkston adds to the convenience of the location for those who need to stock up on supplies.
Amenities & Park Features
The park is designed to accommodate a variety of rigs with full hookup sites that include water, sewer, and both 30 and 50-amp electrical service. Many of the sites are large pull-throughs, making it easy for big rigs to navigate without stress. On-site facilities include a clean bathhouse, laundry room, and a spacious clubhouse often used for community gatherings and potluck dinners. Consistent Wi-Fi access ensures that guests can stay connected while enjoying the rustic surroundings of the park's landscaped property.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
The main draw is undoubtedly the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge, where visitors can enjoy guided boat tours, canoeing, and wildlife photography. Birdwatchers frequently spot sandhill cranes and various migratory species, while the refuge's boardwalks offer safe views of alligators and rare plants. For a different type of excitement, the Folkston Funnel is a must-visit destination for rail fans, offering a dedicated viewing platform to watch nearly all train traffic entering and leaving Florida from the eastern seaboard.
Who This Park Is Best For
This park is an excellent choice for nature enthusiasts and photographers who want early morning access to the wildlife refuge. It is also a favorite for train watchers and retirees looking for a quiet, long-term winter home in a temperate climate. If you prefer a friendly, community-oriented atmosphere over a high-activity resort, this park fits your travel style perfectly. It serves as a comfortable, accessible home base for those who value peace, quiet, and outdoor exploration.

If you’re looking for a quiet and convenient base near the Okefenokee Wildlife Refuge, Okefenokee RV Park is a solid choice. This small, no-frills campground offers around 50 sites with a mix of pull-through and back-in options. The sites are fairly level, and while not overly spacious, they provide what you need for a comfortable stay. One of the biggest perks of this park is its proximity to the Okefenokee Wildlife Refuge, making it a great spot for nature lovers, kayakers, and wildlife enthusiasts. It’s an easy drive to the refuge, where you can explore the swamps, go on boat tours, and see tons of wildlife. The park has basic amenities, including a small recreation room with a pool table and air hockey—nice for a little indoor entertainment. There’s also a coin-operated laundry facility, which is always a plus for extended stays. The campground has a laid-back and welcoming atmosphere, with friendly people who make it feel like a homey stop rather than just another overnight stay. While it’s not a luxury resort, Okefenokee RV Park is a clean, convenient, and friendly spot for those looking to explore the refuge and surrounding areas. If you appreciate simple, no-fuss camping with easy access to outdoor adventures, this park is worth considering.

I came here in November 2022 for a 'short' stay but it's now February 2024 and I have no plans of leaving. Such a special family atmosphere inspired by the owner, Janna. The lots are huge and accommodate my 40' toy hauler and my 28' enclosed car hauler/workshop as well. I've stayed in dozens of r.v. parks (usually more expensive) but this smaller park is the best I've found!!

Loved staying here. Nice size spots so you’re not right on top of your neighbor. People here are very friendly. Nice clean laundry room and never used the bathroom facilities but often saw them being cleaned. Just a nice quiet place. Had an issue with our power pole and they were prompt to fix it. All in all just a good place to stay!

Not real wild about people being able to live there full time because you don't get to clean up everywhere .

This RV park was very cute and ran by a very nice and great staff! Within the first week of us being there, they had a potato outing for everyone in the park to come which was super nice and helped us meet everyone in the park! They have a decent sized laundry, game room, public restrooms, as well as a basketball court. The wifi is very much 50/50. You are also pretty far from both neighboring towns, but you are within 1 hour of Jacksonville FL, Saint Simons Island/Jekyll island (Driftwood beach) , and Saint Mary’s GA which are beautiful places. It seems like most the people here live full time or on a yearly basis because they have permanent fences or sheds right next to their mobile homes which can sort of make the rv park feel cluttered. But this place is a nice place to stay if you are needing a cheaper place to be with a very friendly feel! (Didn’t get any pictures of RV park, but I have pictures of the neighboring places that you can visit)
