Ouachita Lake - COE/Brady Mountain
Overview
Located on the southern shores of Arkansas's largest lake, Brady Mountain Recreation Area offers a premier camping experience managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. This facility is widely recognized for its stunning views of Lake Ouachita, a body of water famous for its clarity and natural beauty. Unlike many commercial parks, Brady Mountain provides a serene, forest-heavy atmosphere where the focus remains on the surrounding environment and the vast expanse of the lake's 40,000 acres of crystal-clear water.
Location & Surroundings
The park is situated in Royal, AR, nestled deep within the Ouachita National Forest. The drive into the recreation area takes you through rolling hills and dense timber, creating an immediate sense of seclusion and peace. The lake itself is dotted with hundreds of uninhabited islands, making the shoreline feel rugged and untouched. Visitors will find themselves surrounded by mountainous terrain that provides a dramatic backdrop for sunsets and early morning fog rolling off the water.
Amenities & Park Features
RV travelers will appreciate the well-maintained facilities, which include over 70 campsites designed for comfort. Most sites feature concrete pads and come equipped with water and electric hookups to accommodate modern rigs of various sizes. The park also provides a full-service marina nearby, offering boat rentals and fuel for those looking to get on the water. Other essential features include a dedicated swimming beach, a playground for children, and multiple bathhouses with hot showers, ensuring a comfortable stay.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
While the lake is the primary draw for fishing and scuba diving, the area is a haven for hikers. The Lake Ouachita Vista Trail (LOViT) is accessible nearby, offering miles of scenic paths for mountain biking and trekking. Just a short drive away, you can explore the historic charm of Hot Springs National Park, where the famous Bathhouse Row and local boutiques provide a change of pace. The area is also known for its crystal mines, where visitors can dig for their own Arkansas quartz.
Who This Park Is Best For
Brady Mountain is an ideal destination for boating enthusiasts and anglers who want quick access to deep, clear water right from their campsite. It is also a perfect fit for families seeking a traditional outdoor vacation without the noise of a high-density resort. If you prefer scenic lakeside living and value the quietude of a National Forest setting over urban amenities, this COE park offers the right balance of basic comforts and immersive natural beauty.

Beautiful place to camp on the most refreshing lake ever- Lake Ouachita 💖💖 bathhouses are clean and you don’t feel too crowded next to others. Wonderful area with disc golf and lots of trails, sandy beaches and lots of trees to hammock.

We stayed on one of the houseboats and it was a great experience. Something we definitely want to do again. Lots of room and really comfortable. I was surprised. We have a spacious RV but this is so much better than our RV. And on the water! I'd trade in the RV and pontoon for one of these! So, yeah, we really enjoyed it! The hot tub was a treat as well. I didn't expect that. It was a long day walking around Hot Springs and a cold night followed, but the hot tub was perfect ending to relax and look at the stars.

Beautiful area! Lots of wildlife to be seen. Unfortunately sites 17-22 are all crammed together. Luckily we were the only campers on this spot until our last night. You have 2 different RV camping areas on either side of the tent area, so you can hear generators but it isn't super loud. This tent area would be fantastic for a large group or family get together. Showers were a bit sketch, but I was glad to see restrooms close. All in all, I had a beautiful time with my husband & dogs at Brady Mountain. The half hour drive to Ron Coleman mines is a great day trip to dig for quartz crystals and some site seeing if you take the back roads!!
