Ouachita Lake - COE/Little Fir

Overview

Little Fir Campground, managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, offers a serene escape on the western edge of Lake Ouachita. Unlike the more developed eastern shores, this area provides a tranquil atmosphere where the beauty of the Ouachita National Forest takes center stage. This destination is widely favored by those who appreciate the natural landscape and the crystal-clear waters that have made this region famous. It serves as a gateway to one of the cleanest lakes in the nation, offering visitors a rugged yet comfortable outdoor experience.

Location & Surroundings

Located just north of Mount Ida, Arkansas, Little Fir is nestled within a heavily timbered peninsula. The campground is surrounded by the vast Ouachita National Forest, providing a lush canopy that offers shade and privacy. The drive into the park winds through scenic forest roads, setting the tone for a relaxing stay. Because of its remote location on the lake's western side, the surroundings remain remarkably quiet, making it an ideal spot for those looking to disconnect from city life.

Amenities & Park Features

The park features sites equipped with electric and water hookups, catering well to various RV sizes. While sewer hookups are not available at individual sites, campers have access to several essential features:

  • Individual sites include picnic tables and fire rings for evening gatherings.
  • A well-maintained boat ramp provides easy access to the water.
  • The on-site fish cleaning station is a favorite for local anglers.

Visitors also benefit from clean bathhouses featuring flush toilets and heated showers, ensuring a comfortable stay in the wilderness.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Outdoor recreation is the primary draw, with world-class fishing for striped bass and crappie right at your doorstep. Just a short drive away, Mount Ida offers unique opportunities for quartz crystal mining at several local public mines. For those who prefer the trails, the following activities are nearby:

  • Hiking and mountain biking on the scenic Vista Trail.
  • Exploring uninhabited islands by kayak or canoe.
  • Wildlife viewing within the surrounding national forest.

Who This Park Is Best For

Little Fir is a premier choice for avid anglers and boaters seeking direct water access without the crowds found at larger resorts. It is also perfect for families who enjoy a traditional camping experience centered around nature rather than commercialized amenities. If you value peaceful waterfront views and a dark sky perfect for stargazing, this quiet COE park will likely exceed your expectations for a relaxing Arkansas getaway.

Another beautiful peaceful campground on Lake Ouachita. Water and power hookup. Great for fishing or just to get away.
