Overlook Park

Overview

Overlook Park provides a tranquil escape on the shores of Lake Somerville. As a park managed by the US Army Corps of Engineers, it offers a blend of natural beauty and essential comforts for travelers seeking a waterfront experience. The park is well-known for its elevated views of the reservoir, providing visitors with a front-row seat to stunning sunsets and local wildlife sightings in a serene, natural setting away from the city noise.

Location & Surroundings

Located in the rolling hills of Somerville, Texas, the park sits near the southeastern end of the reservoir by the Somerville Dam. The surrounding landscape is characterized by post oak forests and wide-open water vistas that stretch to the horizon. It serves as an ideal base for exploring the Brazos River Valley, situated conveniently near Highway 36 and within an easy drive of the historic charm found in Brenham, making it a central hub for regional exploration.

Amenities & Park Features

RV travelers will find spacious sites equipped with 30 and 50-amp electric hookups along with potable water. The park features a convenient dump station, clean restroom facilities, and hot showers for guest comfort. For those bringing watercraft, the on-site boat ramp provides immediate access to the lake, while the designated swim beach and playground offer recreation for families. Shaded picnic areas with grills are also available for afternoon gatherings along the shoreline.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy miles of trails at the nearby Lake Somerville State Park, which is famous for its hiking, mountain biking, and equestrian paths. Fishing is a premier activity here, with the lake being heavily stocked with largemouth bass, crappie, and hybrid stripers. Visitors often take short day trips to Brenham to visit the famous Blue Bell Creamery or explore the local antique shops and boutiques that define this scenic region of the Texas Hill Country transition zone.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is an excellent choice for nature-focused RVers who prefer a quiet, scenic atmosphere over a busy commercial resort. It is particularly well-suited for boating and fishing enthusiasts who want direct and easy access to the water for early morning outings. Families will appreciate the safe swimming areas and open spaces, while birdwatchers will find the diverse avian population around the shoreline truly captivating, making it a prime spot for photography and relaxation.

Spent 5 nights here as the Director of the Paige Lions Club Fishing Tournament with the Pavilion use. The park was clean and mowed. Thanks to the great staff - Sherri,Solon, Leanne, Barbara,Sara,Larry, Johnny,John. Club members and fisherman loved the set up we had and the band loved the trailer stage . Thanks for letting us use your park to make memories and friends.

Great relaxing environment. The cabins are right on the water with the best view of the lake, especially at sunset

We took the family for a relaxing afternoon fishing. And had a nice lunch by the lake side a few weeks back. Some updates could be made.

I love the Somerville Marina area. You can rent canoes for $15 a hour and they have a variety of items in the store. The staff is always wonderful and seem to remember me now!
