Oyen Centennial Park (Town Park)

Overview

Oyen Centennial Park offers a quiet and convenient resting spot for travelers crossing the expansive prairies of eastern Alberta. Managed by the Town of Oyen, this municipal campground provides a welcoming community atmosphere for visitors looking for a peaceful break. It serves as a vital hub near the junction of Highway 9 and Highway 41, offering plenty of greenery and essential services. The park is consistently well-maintained, reflecting the small-town pride of the local residents who maintain the site.

Location & Surroundings

Situated on the eastern edge of the community, the park is nestled within a larger recreation complex that acts as the heart of Oyen. The surrounding landscape features wide-open skies and the golden fields typical of the Special Areas region. Because the park is located within the town limits, guests are within walking distance of local businesses including grocery stores, gas stations, and hardware shops. Mature trees provide a natural windbreak and a sense of privacy from the main travel corridors.

Amenities & Park Features

The facility is designed to provide comfortable stays for weary travelers. Key features of the park include:

  • 30-amp power hookups and potable water at the sites.
  • Clean washrooms equipped with hot shower facilities.
  • Access to a community playground and horseshoe pits.

A sanitary dump station is located nearby, making it easy for RVers to manage their tanks before continuing their journey across the province. The sites are level and offer easy access for various rig sizes.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Just steps from your campsite, you can explore the Crossroads Museum, which showcases the rich agricultural and pioneer history of the region. For those seeking active recreation, the town’s outdoor swimming pool is a popular destination during the warm summer months. Golfers can head to the nearby nine-hole course to enjoy a round in the prairie sun. The park’s proximity to scenic prairie landscapes also makes it a great base for nature photography and birdwatching.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is an ideal choice for cross-country travelers looking for a reliable and affordable overnight stop while traversing Alberta. It appeals to those who prefer the safety and convenience of a municipal park rather than remote boondocking sites. It is also perfect for families and sports teams visiting for local tournaments or community events. If you value a quiet, friendly environment where you can easily restock supplies, this park fits your travel style perfectly.

I had a nice break here with my dog in the middle of a road trip. There was not much to do around, but the facility was clean and quiet. It's self registration camp ground. There's power and water.

If you have no other option then camp here. But you should really try to find somewhere else because the "campground" is actually a busy dusty street. Give this one a miss. Keep driving, there are nicer campgrounds nearby.

A nice quiet place to put your feet up. Golf course across the street.

Get place close to the ball diamonds. We are self contained but are using the water and power. Lots of fire wood which is free. Close to pool(when it opens) and close to town.
