Ozark Scenic Riverway/Pulltite

Overview

Pulltite Campground is a quintessential destination within the Ozark National Scenic Riverways, offering a serene escape along the banks of the crystal-clear Current River. Located in the heart of the Missouri Ozarks, this park is managed by the National Park Service and provides a deeply immersive outdoor experience. The Current River is celebrated for its deep blue springs and historical significance as the first scenic riverway in the country. This location captures the essence of Missouri wilderness, providing a peaceful backdrop for those looking to disconnect and enjoy the rhythmic flow of one of America's first federally protected river systems.

Location & Surroundings

Situated near Round Spring, Missouri, the campground is surrounded by dense hardwood forests and dramatic limestone bluffs that define the Ozark landscape. The park sits right on a bend of the Current River, known for its cold, spring-fed waters and gentle current. Accessed via Highway 19, the campground feels isolated while remaining accessible to those traveling through Shannon County. The environment is lush and tranquil, characterized by the sounds of the river and native wildlife, making it a premier spot for witnessing the natural beauty of the Missouri Ozarks in a secluded setting.

Amenities & Park Features

As a traditional NPS facility, Pulltite offers a more rustic camping experience without individual water or electric hookups. The campground features spacious back-in sites suitable for various RV lengths, though visitors should be prepared for dry camping. In addition to basic sites, the park provides access to a public dump station and multiple river landing points for easy canoe or kayak entry. Essential facilities include centrally located restrooms and shower houses, as well as potable water spigots. Each site is equipped with a picnic table and a fire ring, perfect for evening gatherings under the stars.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

The highlight of any stay is paddling the river; the Pulltite to Round Spring stretch is famous for its scenic vistas. A short hike leads to the historic Pulltite Spring and Cabin, where millions of gallons of water emerge from the earth to create a vibrant turquoise pool. Travelers often visit the nearby Round Spring Cave for guided tours or explore the towering cliffs of Echo Bluff State Park, located just a short drive away. Birdwatching and photography are also popular activities, as the river attracts a wide variety of local avian species throughout the changing seasons.

Who This Park Is Best For

This destination is ideal for nature enthusiasts and floaters who prioritize scenery and river access over modern resort luxuries. It is best suited for RVers who are comfortable with boondocking or dry camping and want to be steps away from the water. The lack of reliable cell service makes it a top choice for a digital detox. Families and solo travelers seeking a quiet, screen-free environment where they can fall asleep to the sound of flowing water will find Pulltite to be a refreshing retreat from the hustle of developed city life.

Perfect spot for a river swim and a picnic. Edit: I cut it down to four stars because it became apparent that there is very little control for Poison ivy and I got (from my dog getting into it) very bad so if you are allergic to poison ivy be aware practically everything is covered in it.

Beautiful scenic drive in the Ozarks, with so many things to see along the way. We picked the Old Mill, Blue Spring, and Rocky Falls. I was not disappointed. The colors of the water are surreal.

B E A U T I F U L. The various sites in the National Park are all amazing, but know that many of the roads are 1.25 lane dirt/sand roads. They are steep and really not for the inexperienced driver. The mill and the Big Springs sites are both easy to access.

Great place to visit lots of natural springs, cave springs, homesteads, water mill, hiking and outfitters available for canoe and kayak rentals. Or bring your own and play a day or multiple day overnight adventure they will help make with shuttle service whatever your needs give them a call and start an Ozark river adventure with site that will last a lifetime.

Beautiful river! Very peaceful! This is probably the most peaceful and most isolated of my kayaking trips. We didn’t pass many people on the river, and it felt like it was ours alone! Pretty incredible! Serene beauty all around for miles and miles and miles.
