Ozark Scenic Riverway/Round Spring
Overview
Round Spring serves as a centerpiece of the Ozark National Scenic Riverways, offering a tranquil yet essential experience for nature enthusiasts and traditional campers. This National Park Service facility provides a direct gateway to the pristine, spring-fed waters of the Current River. It is widely recognized for its namesake circular turquoise spring and the adjacent cavern system, making it a premier choice for those who prioritize immersive outdoor exploration and natural beauty over the polished amenities of private luxury resorts.
Location & Surroundings
Conveniently located off Highway 19 in Round Spring, MO, the park is defined by the unique karst topography and dense hardwood forests characteristic of the Missouri Ozarks. The campground is strategically positioned along the banks of the Current River, providing easy access to the waterway’s legendary floating, swimming, and fishing spots. Visitors are surrounded by towering limestone bluffs and vibrant greenery, creating a secluded and peaceful atmosphere that feels worlds away from the hustle of urban life.
Amenities & Park Features
While the park emphasizes a rustic experience, it offers electric hookups at many of its RV-friendly sites, which is a significant advantage within the National Scenic Riverways system. The campground features paved pads, though they vary in levelness. Essential facilities include communal water spigots, sturdy fire rings, and heavy-duty picnic tables. During the peak season, visitors have access to restrooms with hot showers and a centrally located dump station. The spacious layouts provide a sense of privacy amidst the towering oak and pine trees.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
The most popular local draw is the Round Spring Cave, where seasonal ranger-led tours showcase intricate geological formations and underground beauty. Floating the Current River is the quintessential activity here; travelers can launch canoes, kayaks, or tubes directly into the crystal-clear current. A short, accessible trail leads to the Round Spring, a collapsed cavern that forms a deep blue pool, discharging millions of gallons of water into the river system every single day.
Who This Park Is Best For
This destination is perfectly suited for active outdoor families and river enthusiasts who want to be at the heart of the Ozark wilderness. It is an excellent fit for RVers who prefer the quiet rhythm of a National Park over the crowded atmosphere of a commercial park. If you value scenic river views, dark night skies for stargazing, and immediate trail access, Round Spring provides an authentic and refreshing Missouri camping experience.

Nice campground we went at the end of October. Thankful we went when there was noone else really there since we were on the rv slab. It was a nice walk to the river where the spring comes in, it was gorgeous. The spring was beautiful and the bridge looked like it was washed out to the cave.

We drove through today while visiting the area around Eminence. The campground looked appealing and we'd like to return in the fall

Had a great time. We put in kayaks at pulltite and pulled out right here at the beach and were able to get back to our campsite nice and easy

Camgrounds were located close to river access. Able to kayak from Pulltite to Round Spring in a few hours. Great access to locations up or down river for a weekend float trip.

I grew up going to this campsite and I still try to go every year, it was one of my favorite places!! It is the perfect location, we always float from Akers Ferry to Round Springs and it was always so nice to end at our campsite and not have to wait for drivers to pick us up. The facilities have always been well maintained, the bathroom and shower are pretty nice for a campsite. The campground is rocky so definitely bring a sleeping pad or air mattress if you’re in a tent. The raccoons are also really bad here and can get into anything you leave outside your tent so make sure to lock up food and trash in your car before bed!! Also, kinda disappointing but no hammocks are allowed.
