Ozark-St Francis/Redding Rec Area
Overview
Redding Recreation Area serves as a premier destination for those looking to immerse themselves in the heart of the Ozark-St. Francis National Forest. Situated along the banks of the Mulberry River, this campground offers a serene escape defined by the sound of flowing water and rustling leaves. It is a favored spot for travelers who value unspoiled natural beauty and direct access to some of Arkansas’s most iconic landscapes. The park provides a gateway to the rugged charm of the Ozarks, making it a foundational stop for any regional road trip.
Location & Surroundings
Nestled within a deep valley of the Ozark Mountains, the surroundings are characterized by steep ridges and dense hardwood forests. Located north of Ozark, AR, the area provides a secluded atmosphere far from city noise. The Mulberry River, a designated National Wild and Scenic River, borders the site, offering dramatic limestone bluffs and crystal-clear pools that change beauty with every season, providing a perfect backdrop for your RV stay.
Amenities & Park Features
This is a primitive camping experience, meaning it is best suited for self-contained RVs or those who enjoy dry camping. The simplicity of the site allows for a deeper connection with nature. Key features include:
- 27 individual campsites with fire rings and picnic tables.
- Access to communal drinking water and vault toilets.
- A convenient boat launch for river access.
There are no electrical or water hookups at the sites, ensuring a quiet, low-impact environment for all guests who appreciate off-grid living.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
The primary draw is the water; the park is a major hub for floating the Mulberry River, popular for canoeing and kayaking during the spring. For those on foot, the Redding Loop Trail offers a scenic trekking experience that connects to the Ozark Highlands Trail and leads to the breathtaking Spy Rock overlook. Fishing for smallmouth bass and exploring the numerous forest service roads for wildlife viewing are also highly recommended activities for guests.
Who This Park Is Best For
This location is ideal for outdoor adventurers and nature photographers who prioritize scenery over luxury. Because it lacks hookups and large-scale paved pads, it is better for smaller RVs, camper vans, or rugged expedition trailers. It is the perfect match for paddling enthusiasts and hikers looking for a basecamp that provides immediate trail and river access without the distractions of modern resort life.

A spot to camp. Beautiful view of creek/river and area to swim and decent camp sites. Washhouse will have you leaving dirtier than you entered do not recommend using it other than emergency and I mean EMERGENCY. Mold everywhere and toilets didn’t flush

KIDHLR Garage
Not the cleanest we’ve stayed at, but the location and price was right. $15 bucks a night with flush toilets and a shower! Plus river access

This is a great campground to experience the Mulberry River. One campsite has hookups. The rest are primitive. The bath house is not well maintained.

Nice lil spot. River was way up!! Very peaceful. Has one shower stall, water warms up quick for having to press it continuously. $15 to camp, $5 day use.
