Pakwash

Overview

Pakwash Provincial Park offers a tranquil escape within the vast boreal forest of Northwestern Ontario. Situated on the shores of Pakwash Lake, this park serves as a serene destination for those seeking to disconnect from the bustle of city life. It provides an authentic wilderness experience without sacrificing essential comforts, making it a favorite for travelers venturing through the Sunset Country region. It serves as an essential gateway for those exploring the remote beauty of the north, offering a perfect blend of rugged scenery and quiet solitude for every visitor.

Location & Surroundings

Located just north of Ear Falls on Highway 105, the park is tucked away in a landscape defined by rocky outcrops and dense evergreen stands. The centerpiece of the area is the expansive lake, known for its shallow, warm waters and fine sandy beaches that stretch along the shoreline. The surrounding wilderness is home to diverse wildlife, offering a true sense of seclusion while remaining accessible for those traveling between Vermilion Bay and Red Lake. The park's location provides a distinct sense of getting away from it all, where the sounds of the wind in the pines replace the noise of traffic.

Amenities & Park Features

The campground accommodates various setups with several electrical sites and spacious layouts suitable for larger RVs. While it maintains a rustic feel, visitors have access to essential facilities including a central comfort station with flush toilets and showers. A well-maintained boat launch provides easy lake access for boaters, while a playground near the beach area ensures families have recreation options on-site. The park also features laundry facilities and a convenient trailer dumping station, which are welcome sights for long-haul RVers exploring the northern reaches of the province.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

The primary draw is the water, where anglers target Walleye and Northern Pike in the productive lake waters. Hikers can explore the 1.5-kilometre Shoreline Trail, which offers views of the lake’s unique geological formations and local flora. Just a short drive away, the town of Ear Falls provides access to the Wenasaga River and local history at the museum. Wildlife viewing is another popular pastime, as the area is frequented by bald eagles and loons, providing ample opportunities for nature photography and peaceful observation in a pristine environment.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is ideal for nature enthusiasts and families who enjoy water-based recreation in a quiet, natural setting. It appeals to RVers who prefer the sights and sounds of the forest over the crowded amenities of a luxury resort. If you are looking for a peaceful home base for a fishing trip or a scenic stopover on a northern road trip, Pakwash delivers a classic Ontario provincial park experience. It is also a fantastic choice for birdwatchers and photographers who want to capture the raw beauty of the Ontario wilderness in a relaxed, unhurried atmosphere.

10 guys sharing 2 cabins, fishing, eating fish and having a good time. Dennis and Kim, the owners, responding to every request. Very nice rental boats with 50 or 60 HP motors in top shape. Cabin furnishing left a lot to desire. They must have some interesting stories to tell! Conversation pays off. We all caught some amazing fish. Too bad we had to throw them back because they were too big.

Fantastic haven!!! Beautiful setting, memorable scenery and views, fabulous service, and unforgettable fishing. Kim and Denis run a tight ship with the customer and environment always in mind. We like cabin 3 for its view of the lake. It's cozy and well maintained. This year I caught my personal best walleye at 26" (catch and release). If you're looking for a Canadian getaway, Pakwash Lake Camp won't disappoint. Highly recommend.

Last July, 2023 was my first ever trip to Canada and to Pakwash Lake Camp. It's peaceful surroundings and great fishing areas, and being with people that mean the world to you made it that more special. Can't wait to be there again in less than 3 weeks. Bringing one of our grandsons this trip. He's so excited. Can't wait to see his face when he catches the "Big One". Kim and Dennis, you're the best.

Camp Pakwash was my first ever Canada fishing trip in 2023. Since then I’ve fished Lake of the Woods and boundary waters. Literally nothing compares to Camp Pakwash. First, you can get live bait right at camp. Secondly, this camp is family owned with the owners right on sight. They want to ensure you have a successful trip. Other groups that were there when we were also were friendly and helpful. I would choose Pakwash over Lake of the Woods 10 out 10 times.

We spent a week in August at Pakwash lake camp and had a wonderful experience despite some wet weather. Kim and Dennis are such wonderful hosts and they go above and beyond to make sure that your experience is more than you expect. I have been coming to this camp since I was a young boy and next year we will be bringing 2 of our grandchildren with us. The cabins are very comfortable and clean. And of course, the fishing is always super!
