Parc National de Plaisance

Overview

Parc National de Plaisance is a stunning natural sanctuary located along the Ottawa River, managed by the SEPAQ network. This park is celebrated for its intricate mosaic of marshes, bays, and forests, offering a unique landscape where water and land intertwine. RVers will find a peaceful atmosphere dedicated to the preservation of local flora and fauna. It serves as a vital migration stopover for thousands of birds, making it a premier destination for those seeking a quiet, nature-focused retreat with well-maintained facilities.

Location & Surroundings

Situated in the town of Plaisance, QC, the park is conveniently located between Gatineau and Montreal. The geography is defined by its position on the Ottawa River shoreline, featuring several peninsulas and narrow strips of land that jut into the water. The surrounding Outaouais region provides a lush backdrop of deciduous forests and expansive wetlands. The park is easily accessible via Route 148, making it a convenient stop for travelers exploring the scenic corridor between Quebec's major urban centers.

Amenities & Park Features

The park offers specialized camping sectors designed to accommodate various RV sizes. Many sites feature two or three services, including electricity and water hookups, providing a comfortable balance between rustic camping and modern convenience. Visitors have access to a heated outdoor pool during the summer months, a Discovery and Visitors Centre, and high-quality equipment rentals for biking or kayaking. The park also maintains over 25 kilometers of flat, accessible cycling trails that wind through the marshes and wooded areas.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Outdoor enthusiasts can explore the breathtaking Chutes de Plaisance, a series of historic waterfalls located just a short drive from the park entrance. For a touch of local history and luxury, the nearby village of Montebello features the iconic Fairmont Le Château Montebello, the world's largest log castle. Within the park itself, birdwatching is the primary draw, particularly during the spring and fall migrations. Paddling through the hidden bays of the Petite Nation River offers a serene way to observe the local turtle populations.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is ideal for nature photographers and birdwatchers who want to immerse themselves in a rich, biodiverse environment. It is also a fantastic choice for families looking for a safe, flat terrain for cycling and easy water activities. Because of its quiet, conservation-first approach, it is best suited for RVers who prefer tranquility and wildlife observation over high-energy resort entertainment. If you enjoy waking up to the sound of waterfowl and exploring gentle waterways, this park is a perfect match.

Easy to access and use camping, quiet, well maintained. Decent showers, toilets, drinkable water available. Raccoons cruise the sites at night of course, so don't leave food outside, or in your tent if possible. Leave it in your car, or use a bear bag or bear drum! Happy camping!

It seems to be a nice SEPAQ park but I only went to paddle board along the river. You can rent boards but I brought mine. Parking was free but you have to pay $10 to get into the park. The access to the river was right next to the parking so that is cool. However…my mistake to spend 2 hours paddling up stream…some areas the current was so strong it was hard to advance…this is due to the recent rain storms. So forget stopping because you flow back and waste all the hard work unless you want to hold onto a tree lol. I slugged it out to under the bridge. I wanted to get to the view of the falls but after 2 hours I caved and enjoyed the easy return. We took a drive to see the chute by car. I heard there are some nice walking trails but I didn’t use any to report. I hoped to be able to jump in for a swim but the water wasn’t appealing…very murky and brown. I much preferred Rivière rouge where we parked up river, flowed down with the current and taxied back…way more fun and the water is clear enough to see the bottom!

Fantastic !! Was there for one night and went without any problems. Staff is so friendly and helpful. The possibility to see so many animals is incredible! With the walking trail over the water we got to see a beaver literally at our feet !

My favorite of Sepaq's parks. It's not too far from Montreal or Ottawa, and it's very peaceful. There are some great hiking trails and bike paths, but where this park shines in canoe/kayaking. They have sheltered bays , so the water is very calm and accessible to beginners. They even have some campsites where you can launch your boat directly into the water. The sites are on the small side, and some of them there's no cover between neighbor's. There is some sort of hall with tables inside, and this is also where some bathrooms and washing machines are located. There are other washrooms located near other campsites. Also, take note that during the off-season, you can only rent boats from the main reception and not the smaller dock near the campsites. Good idea to call and ask first.

This national park is great. Amazing nature, caring staff, affordable price for renting kayak, bicycle, and canot. It was not very populated. We rented a kayak for two people, for one hour, just for $21. The bicycle for one hour is $18.5. The river for kayaking is amazing. There are three ways to go, and they are all perfect. The water does not flow, so it is suitable for kayaking. The parking is big and there is a lot of spots.
