Parc National des Grands-Jardins
Overview
Parc National des Grands-Jardins is a cornerstone of the Charlevoix Biosphere Reserve, offering a landscape that feels more like the far north than southern Quebec. This SEPAQ-managed destination is famous for its unique taiga and tundra vegetation, which thrives at a surprisingly low latitude. For RV travelers, it provides a gateway to a rugged, ancient world shaped by a meteorite impact millions of years ago, providing a serene escape into the wild heart of the province.
Location & Surroundings
Situated in the mountainous hinterland of Charlevoix, QC, the park is easily accessed via Route 381 near Saint-Urbain. The surroundings are defined by dramatic topographical shifts, from dense coniferous forests to rocky summits. Visitors will find themselves surrounded by the Laurentian Mountains, where the air is crisp and the vistas stretch across deep valleys and crystal-clear alpine lakes, making every drive through the park a scenic experience.
Amenities & Park Features
While the park emphasizes a wilderness experience, RVers will find comfortable accommodations at the Pied-des-Monts campground. This sector offers several sites equipped with water and electricity hookups, making it suitable for modern rigs. Essential facilities include well-maintained washrooms, hot showers, and a convenient dump station. The park discovery centers provide helpful topographic maps and interpretive displays to help travelers navigate the vast trail systems and fishing spots effectively.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
The park is a premier destination for hiking, with the Mont-du-Lac-des-Cygnes trail offering a breathtaking 360-degree view of the landscape. Anglers frequent the area for speckled trout fishing in the many lakes, while adventurers can try the via ferrata on the rock faces. Just a short drive away, the charming town of Baie-Saint-Paul offers art galleries and local culinary delights for those seeking a mix of nature and culture.
Who This Park Is Best For
This park is an ideal match for active explorers and nature photographers who prioritize scenery and outdoor recreation over resort-style amenities. It is perfect for RVers who enjoy rustic mountain settings and want to immerse themselves in a quiet, contemplative environment. If you are looking for a basecamp to tackle challenging hikes or enjoy peaceful evenings under a starlit sky, this Quebec gem is an essential stop on any Charlevoix itinerary.

One of the most beautiful, rustic, & peaceful places I’ve ever had the pleasure of visiting. Stunning beauty, beautiful campground & facilities. We’ve driven 15 hrs to visit twice in the last two years. We cannot get enough of the panoramic views and incredible hiking.

This park was gorgeous! The mountains were incredibly beautiful with breathtaking views. The Arthabaska Campground was such a beautiful and quiet place to relax and rest. The sites were well spaced and the hikes in the immediate area were interesting and offered wonderful views of the area.

Great hiking area, many well organized trails, good climbs and beautiful views. On the way up, you'll see wildlife (including beavers) and a pretty forest. Particularly pretty in the fall, when decorated with bewildering colours. Very recommended if you're into hiking. Google is asking to rate the rooms, service and location, which doesn't really make sense as this is a hiking area.

This national park is very impressive. The Mont du Lac des Cygnes was well maintained and a real treat. Definitely a moderate hike, but the views from the top are spectacular. It was extremely windy, so ensure that you pack a windbreaker and warm clothes. Overall great experience - so much beauty to admire all around.

Beautiful park. We went camping and the camp site was clean and peaceful and only a small walk from the parking. There are a lot of hikes to chose from and they were not too crowded for a nice Saturday morning in July which is a big plus. Dogs are allowed on some trails. The staff were very nice and helped us a lot with recommendations for hikes and swimming. Would definitely come back again!
