Parc National du Mont-Orford

Overview

Parc National du Mont-Orford is a premier destination managed by SEPAQ, located in the heart of the Eastern Townships of Quebec. This park offers a diverse landscape characterized by dense sugar maple forests, majestic mountain peaks, and pristine lakes. It is a place where RVers can find a perfect balance between rugged wilderness and well-maintained infrastructure. The park's atmosphere is serene and natural, providing a unique opportunity to witness the changing seasons, especially the vibrant fall colors that attract visitors from across the province. It is a cornerstone of outdoor recreation that feels both grand and accessible.

Location & Surroundings

Situated just minutes from the vibrant town of Magog, the park serves as a gateway to the Cantons-de-l'Est region. The surrounding area is defined by rolling hills and its proximity to the expansive Lake Memphremagog. It is easily accessible for those driving larger rigs via Highway 10, making it a convenient stop for travelers exploring Quebec. The Orford and Fraser sectors provide distinct environments within the park boundaries, each offering a deep connection to the local ecosystem and easy access to scenic viewpoints that overlook the lush valley below.

Amenities & Park Features

RV travelers can choose from various camping options across the Stukely and Fraser sectors. Many sites are specifically designed for RVs, offering full hookups including water, electricity, and sewer services. The park provides clean washblocks, laundry facilities, and a central dumping station for convenience. For those who enjoy the traditional camping experience, the spacious wooded sites provide a sense of privacy and immersion in nature. Most sites feature fire pits and picnic tables, allowing travelers to enjoy quiet evenings under the forest canopy after a day of exploration.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

The park is a hiker's paradise, boasting an extensive network of trails that lead to the summits of Mont-Orford and Mont-Chauve. Water enthusiasts will appreciate the supervised beaches at Stukely and Fraser lakes, where you can rent canoes, kayaks, and paddleboards. While hiking is a major draw, the park also features an extensive network of cycling paths that connect to larger regional trail systems. Just outside the park, the town of Magog offers excellent dining, boutique shopping, and scenic boat tours, providing a nice cultural contrast to the quiet of the woods.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is ideal for active families and nature lovers who want access to high-quality hiking and water sports without sacrificing modern comforts. It is perfectly suited for RVers who prefer a scenic, forest-based stay rather than a typical commercial paved resort. It is also a fantastic choice for those who value SEPAQ's high standards of maintenance and conservation. Whether you are a solo traveler seeking mountain views or a couple looking for a peaceful retreat in the Eastern Townships, Mont-Orford provides a classic and authentic Quebec outdoor experience.

It was super busy the day I went for a hike- maybe one of the last gorgeous fall days. That meant the trail was much busier than I'm used to. It was rare to be alone. Like all SEPAQ parks, it's well appointed and maintained but I didn't give it 5 stars (which I gave to Mégantic) because I found the trails weren't as clearly marked. It was easy to get confused about which way to go and several people that day were off trail. I'll go back in winter for snowshoeing.

Beautiful, well maintained trails. Huge selection of activities for all ages. Lots of dog friendly trails. Plenty of equipment to rent from fat bikes to trailers and canoes.

Absolutely beautiful park with loads of trails for beginners to experts. Great areas for a lot of different activities and some truly beautiful wildlife too. You can rent spots for tents if you want to stay here more than a day. There are good restroom facilities as well.

Beautiful National park. We stayed one night in the campsite. Excellent hiking, mountain biking, water activities. Clean and well equipped sites. The only down side is the cost. It cost us to $95 to pitch our small tent for the night (2 adults, 1 young child). If you have the Sepaq National parks card it's $20 cheaper. We also didn't book ahead so that might be a savings too. It was still worth it because of the beautiful space and amenities, but quite pricey for camping. We loved this park and would like to have stayed longer to enjoy more of the hiking.

A very beautiful parc with plenty of hiking trails and relaxing beach. Parking is east, plenty of breathtaking views and well guided. One of the easy trails we took is very suitable for a baby stroller (it should be equipped for off-road tracks).
