Pardee Lake Recreation
Overview
Pardee Lake Recreation serves as a premier destination for those seeking a tranquil retreat in the Sierra Nevada foothills. Managed by the East Bay Municipal Utility District, this park provides a unique balance of natural beauty and structured recreation. Visitors are often drawn to the pristine reservoir waters, which are strictly protected to ensure high water quality for the region. While lake access is centered on boating and fishing rather than swimming, the atmosphere remains exceptionally peaceful and focused on the quiet enjoyment of the outdoors.
Location & Surroundings
Situated near Ione, California, the park is nestled among rolling golden hills and ancient oak trees. The landscape reflects the classic beauty of Amador County, offering a Mediterranean climate that is ideal for spring and fall camping adventures. Its position within the Mokelumne River watershed provides a scenic backdrop that feels miles away from the hustle of city life. The surrounding area remains largely undeveloped, preserving a sense of wild California for all who visit the facility.
Amenities & Park Features
The park features over 100 RV sites, including options for full hookups at the North Shore and Oak View campgrounds to accommodate modern rigs. Because body contact with the reservoir is strictly prohibited to protect the drinking water, the facility provides two large swimming pools for guests to cool off during the warmer summer months. Anglers benefit from a full-service marina, a ten-lane boat launch, and a dedicated fish cleaning station. A grocery store and an on-site cafe provide convenient essentials without leaving the park grounds.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Beyond the park gates, travelers can explore the rich history of California’s legendary Gold Country. The charming towns of Sutter Creek and Jackson are just a short drive away, offering unique antique shops, local boutiques, and historic architecture. For those who enjoy local flavors, the Amador County wine region is world-renowned for its old-vine Zinfandels and scenic tasting rooms. Additionally, the Kennedy Gold Mine offers a glimpse into the region's industrious past through guided tours and exhibits.
Who This Park Is Best For
This destination is ideal for avid anglers looking for trophy-sized trout, catfish, or kokanee salmon in a well-stocked environment. It also strongly appeals to families who appreciate a quiet, controlled environment with amenities like swimming pools and playgrounds. Because of the strict no body contact rule for the lake, it is best suited for travelers who prefer boating and photography over high-speed water sports. It is a true haven for birdwatchers and those seeking a slower pace of life.

Awful lake , gross don't go here ever ever ever, because its my lake and I don't want to share. Its actually so Beautiful and has clear water, deer that follow you. They have eagles you can watch soar above, just a breath taking reservoir. I love that they have boat rental, we get them ever time. We go for short day trips to fish and let the kids play. We like to keep this place our secret.

A good place to camp. There are some camp sites that are very close to the main highway which can noisy at times. When we were there, third week in May, the lake was closed to all boating inc. kayaks, canoes, and float tubes. I word when the lake would reopen. But some of the Marina's rental boats were available for use. The swimming pool and restaurant where opening on Memorial Day weekend.

It wasn't what I expected. It was pretty, but you cannot swim in the water. If the wildflowers were not blooming the hike would have just been hot and boring. Positives- not a lot of people, lots of flowers, clean. Negatives - no swimming, hiking was just a quick walk not a real hike.

Love Pardee... I just wish there wasn't so much trouble with the muscle invasion... Pardee so far has not had them, but no boats are allowed on the lake to fish.

This is one of the best places I've ever camped at! There were only 2 things that were bad about the place. The first was that there were people running generators for almost the entire night right up untill about 10:00 PM. The seconds was that they didn't restock the fish in the lake. Not a single person got a bite on their line once.
