Park Lake

Overview

Park Lake Provincial Park offers a tranquil prairie oasis just a short drive from the bustle of Lethbridge. This well-established park is centered around a man-made reservoir that provides a vital habitat for local wildlife and a refreshing escape for campers. Known for its mature tree canopy and lush greenery, it stands as a stark, beautiful contrast to the surrounding agricultural fields. It is a popular spot for those seeking a quiet lakeside experience without venturing deep into the mountains.

Location & Surroundings

Situated approximately 18 kilometers northwest of Lethbridge, Alberta, the park is easily accessible for those traveling through the southern part of the province. The surrounding landscape is characterized by expansive prairie horizons and cultivated farmland. Because it sits on a primary migratory bird path, the park’s environment changes with the seasons, offering a unique natural backdrop for every visit. The proximity to Highway 25 makes it a convenient stop for RVers exploring the Canadian Badlands.

Amenities & Park Features

The park features a variety of camping options, including several powered RV sites suitable for different rig sizes. Key amenities include:

  • Electrical hookups (15 and 30 amp)
  • Seasonal flush toilets and showers
  • Potable water and sani-dump station
  • Fire pits and picnic tables

While the hookups are primarily electrical, these facilities ensure a comfortable stay. The day-use area includes a playground and boat launch for easy water access, making it a functional choice for longer stays.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Outdoor enthusiasts will find plenty to keep them busy during their stay. Popular activities include:

  • Paddling and windsurfing on the reservoir
  • Fishing for northern pike and yellow perch
  • Birdwatching along the migratory path

For a change of pace, a quick drive into Lethbridge allows travelers to visit the Nikka Yuko Japanese Garden or explore the stunning High Level Bridge. The Galt Museum & Archives also offers deep insights into the history of the Oldman River valley nearby.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is ideal for families and birders who appreciate a quieter, more intimate camping environment. It is a birdwatcher’s paradise due to its location on a major migration route. RVers who prefer a rustic, natural setting over a high-density resort will find the shaded sites particularly appealing. It also serves as an excellent home base for travelers wanting to explore the Lethbridge area while still enjoying the peaceful sounds of the prairie at night.

There's a nice walk all around the lake, a playground for the kids, and a nice beach. Dog friendly, just not on the beach, which is just a small part of the whole park.

You couldn't pay me enough to swim in this lake!! Manure from Grandview Feeders was pushed into this lake several times!! I know because it was from my contaminated dugout! I'm 3 miles from the lake! Have photos of manure standing on top of water!!! Vanderheidens field blowing through my yard and all the weeds left behind!!! Leaders in poor soil management!!!

Good place to have a clear view of sunset and sunrise. Great surroundings apt for RV and swimming activities. Also having a shop that can serve ice creams and other eatables. Must visit for picnics and other getogethers.

Seriously perfect place for kids, families, day trips. Events. The beech isvery clean. The water is knee high for a good 10 Meters for toddlers. There is a deep end. Boat launch. Ice cream shop with food as well like burgers. Staff are friendly as well there. Camping is offered at a reasonable rate with hook ups and RV parking as well. Waterfront camping offered. Loved going there. Clean is the big thing. There is a corn maze down the road to. It's like 20 mins from the city up stream so music to the ears right
