Parvin

Overview

Parvin State Park offers a serene escape into the heart of Salem County, serving as a peaceful retreat for those who appreciate the natural beauty of New Jersey. Known for its lush forests and diverse plant life, this park is a hidden gem for travelers looking to immerse themselves in a quiet environment. It was originally developed by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s, leaving a legacy of craftsmanship and well-planned outdoor spaces that remain popular today. The park is a sanctuary for travelers seeking a quiet, restorative retreat.

Location & Surroundings

Nestled in the southwestern corner of the state, the park is defined by its swamp hardwood forest and the calm waters of Parvin Lake and Muddy Run. The surrounding area of Pittsgrove provides a rural backdrop of rolling farms and orchards, offering a peaceful atmosphere far removed from the busy corridors of the Northeast. This unique location allows visitors to experience the western edge of the Pine Barrens and its distinct ecological features, which change beautifully with the seasons.

Amenities & Park Features

The camping area provides a rustic experience with spacious wooded sites suitable for varying sizes of RVs and trailers. While the park maintains a natural, back-to-basics feel, visitors have access to modern bathhouses with flush toilets and hot showers. On-site recreation is abundant, including boat rentals for exploring the lake, designated swimming areas during the summer months, and numerous picnic groves equipped with charcoal grills for a classic family cookout under the dense forest canopy.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Outdoor enthusiasts can explore over 15 miles of multi-use trails that wind through the forest and along the scenic shoreline. Fishing is a major draw, with the lake being well-stocked and home to various species like bass and panfish. For a change of pace, the nearby Appel Farm Arts & Music Center offers a variety of cultural events and performances throughout the year, and the historic city of Bridgeton is just a short drive away, offering local history and architecture to explore between hikes.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is an ideal destination for nature lovers and birdwatchers who prefer a quiet, wooded setting over a crowded commercial resort atmosphere. It is perfect for RVers who enjoy a more primitive approach to camping and want to wake up surrounded by dense greenery and fresh air. Families looking for a classic outdoor experience with hiking and lake activities will find Parvin State Park to be an affordable and rewarding destination for their next southern New Jersey road trip.

Trails were a bit narrow around the lake. Playground could use some updating, but the kids still had fun. They have camp sites and cabins available for rent, but the website wasn't working so we couldn't access the information.

Our Troop planted new gardens here. The staff was awesome! The park is very large with lots of walking trails, a beach, and kayaking!

So many places to walk or hike. The trails r awesome and they r especially good for biking. Watch out for the big webs though those r gross ! U get tangled up in one of those ur cooked. U gotta go get dewebbed at the ER and it’s a pain in the ass. Send a dog in front so it breaks all the webs and if a spider eats it then oh well at least it didn’t eat you. Me and my gay boyfriend come here often to walk and unwind after a good days work. We put in an honest days work at the laundry facility and we come here to unwind before we go home and cuddle shirtless. We have had a few nice picnics here as well. Definitely come check this place out.

Great local resource for walking and running. Very pleasant and long trails around the lake. Can't provide an opinion on the lake itself as I've never used the lake or beach but it looks nice.
