Pat Mayse Lake - COE/Pat Mayse West

Overview

Pat Mayse West provides a tranquil escape within the lush landscapes of Northeast Texas. Managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, this campground sits on the shores of the expansive Pat Mayse Lake, offering a blend of dense forest and open water. It is a destination where nature takes center stage, providing a quiet atmosphere that contrasts sharply with busy commercial parks. Visitors often come here to reconnect with the outdoors while enjoying well-maintained facilities that honor the natural terrain and the serene lakeside environment.

Location & Surroundings

Located just north of Paris in Powderly, TX, the park is nestled within a region characterized by rolling hills and hardwood forests. The campground is situated on the western shore of the lake, providing campers with easy access to the water's edge. The surrounding area is largely undeveloped, which helps maintain a sense of seclusion and provides a dark sky perfect for stargazing. The proximity to the Red River valley adds to the ecological diversity, making the area a haven for local wildlife and migratory birds throughout the seasons.

Amenities & Park Features

The campground offers sites equipped with water and electric hookups, catering comfortably to most RV sizes. Guests have access to essential facilities, including clean restrooms, hot showers, and a convenient dump station. For those looking to spend time on the water, the park features multiple concrete boat ramps and a dedicated swimming beach. Families often appreciate the on-site playground and the numerous picnic areas that are shaded by towering oaks and pines, ensuring a comfortable stay even during the warmer Texas months.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Fishing is the primary draw at Pat Mayse Lake, with anglers frequently targeting largemouth bass, crappie, and catfish. Beyond the water, the Pat Mayse State Wildlife Management Area offers thousands of acres for hiking and wildlife photography. A short fifteen-minute drive takes you into the city of Paris, where you can visit the famous Eiffel Tower replica with its signature red cowboy hat or explore the historic downtown square with its unique shops and local eateries.

Ok for smaller rv's but roads were built before 40footers and need updated for easier access to sites. Had to fall off both sides of the road to get out at one point. Can be scary when you have to take the whole road and jacks hit the ground trying to back into site.

The lake was refreshing on a hot summer day! No one was tent camping, so the five or six spots were all open. I chose a spot away from the other loop (sites B16 or 17) since the generators were audible from B13.

Very nice camp grounds, beautiful area, well kept and clean. Back in spaces with water and 30 amp electricity. No sewer, but a dump station on-site.
