Pattison
Overview
Pattison State Park is a premier destination for RVers seeking natural wonders in Northern Wisconsin. This park is most famous for housing Big Manitou Falls, which stands as the highest waterfall in the state at 165 feet. Visitors are treated to a stunning landscape carved by the Black River, offering a mix of dramatic geology and serene forest scenery. The park's 1,436 acres provide a diverse habitat for local wildlife, making it a favorite for birdwatchers and nature photographers.
Location & Surroundings
Situated just south of Superior, WI, the park occupies a rugged portion of the Douglas County landscape. The terrain is characterized by dark basalt rock and thick forests of balsam, birch, and pine. Its location provides easy access to the Twin Ports area while remaining tucked away in a quiet, wilderness-like setting. The proximity to the Wisconsin-Minnesota border makes it a convenient stop for those touring the Great Lakes region while exploring the Northwoods.
Amenities & Park Features
The campground offers 59 individual sites, including 18 electric hookups that are well-suited for smaller to mid-sized RVs. Travelers have access to essential facilities to make their stay comfortable:
- The park provides a sanitary dump station and a fresh water fill station for self-contained rigs.
- Guests have access to seasonal flush toilets and clean shower facilities.
- Most campsites are well-spaced and surrounded by trees to ensure a sense of privacy.
For those traveling with children, the park features a nature center and a designated swimming beach on Interfalls Lake.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Beyond the impressive waterfalls, guests can explore over nine miles of scenic hiking trails that wind through the river valley. The park is a short drive from the city of Superior, where you can tour the SS Meteor or visit the Fairlawn Mansion. Many RVers also use Pattison as a base to visit Amnicon Falls State Park or the vibrant waterfront attractions found across the bridge in Duluth, Minnesota.
Who This Park Is Best For
This park is an ideal fit for nature enthusiasts and hikers who prioritize scenery over resort-style amenities. It appeals to travelers looking for a rustic, quiet experience under a canopy of trees rather than a bustling commercial campground. Because of the site dimensions and winding roads, it is particularly well-suited for Class B and C motorhomes or smaller travel trailers looking to immerse themselves in Wisconsin's scenic outdoors.

I live in a place that doesn’t have fall foliage so I took a trip to MN and WI in October. This park was my second stop after leaving the airport. The weather was perfect, and the hiking trails were a great way to spend the afternoon/evening. I also loved seeing all the animals by the water. If I’m in the area again I’ll definitely be back!

Big Manitou Falls is the attraction here but lots to do in a relatively small area Hiking trails around Interfalls Lake and then from the falls down to the river A number of viewpoints for the falls from several different angles. Definitely worth it to hike the various trails to find platforms (noted on maps for convenience) Highest waterfall in Wisconsin and a glorious sight

Nice campground tucked in the woods. Short drive to Superior and Duluth for day trips. The hike to the high falls is pretty neat, nice views for sure. Bring your camera! We can't wait to see how the new bathroom building turns out after construction. We'll definitely be back.

Beautiful well maintained park. The hikes along the river, by the wetlands and to the two different waterfall sites are exceptional. The hiking trails were in wonderful shape. They are for the most part easy and family friendly. I camped overnight in my tent and the facilities were clean and my site was in good shape.

Lots of great hiking at this park. Campsites are all pull-through which is convenient, but still offer privacy between campsites. Both Big and Little Manitou Falls were impressive, but I felt the views of Little were better. Park is also very convenient to Superior (15-20 minutes) giving you great flexibility on your trip.
