Paul Lake

Overview

Paul Lake Provincial Park offers a serene escape just northeast of Kamloops, British Columbia. Nestled within a forest of Douglas fir and aspen, this destination is a favorite for those seeking a rustic camping experience without straying too far from urban conveniences. The park centers around the beautiful Paul Lake, providing a peaceful backdrop for RVers looking to disconnect and enjoy the natural beauty of the Thompson-Nicola region.

Location & Surroundings

Situated about 25 kilometers from downtown Kamloops, the park is easily accessible via paved roads. The landscape is defined by the dramatic cliff face of Gibraltar Rock, which rises sharply from the lake's edge. This area is characterized by rolling hills and lush forests, offering a distinct contrast to the more arid, desert-like climate found in the heart of the Kamloops valley.

Amenities & Park Features

As a provincial park, the facilities focus on basic needs rather than luxury. The campground provides spacious vehicle-accessible sites that can accommodate most moderate-sized RVs. While there are no electrical or water hookups, visitors have access to several essential features:

  • Hand-pumped drinking water stations
  • Well-maintained pit toilets
  • A dedicated boat launch for easy lake access
  • A large sandy beach and picnic area

The day-use area is particularly popular during the summer months, providing a perfect spot for launching a kayak or enjoying a lakeside meal with the family.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Outdoor enthusiasts will find plenty to keep them busy during their stay. The hike to the top of Gibraltar Rock provides a stunning panoramic view of the lake and surrounding valley. Fishing is a major draw here, as the lake is well-stocked with rainbow trout. For a change of pace, the nearby Harper Mountain offers mountain biking trails in the summer, while the vibrant shops and local breweries of Kamloops are just a short drive away.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is ideal for self-contained RV travelers who prefer a quiet, natural setting over a busy resort atmosphere. It is a fantastic choice for families who enjoy swimming and paddling, as well as anglers looking for a reliable fishing spot. If you appreciate starlit nights and waking up to the sound of loons on the water, Paul Lake is a perfect fit for your next British Columbia road trip.

Excellent beach area. Many picnic areas, a dock, a dog friendly area. We come here frequently. A short hike nearby, as well as a provincial campground. Includes some bookable sites and many walk-ins.

Awesome beautiful camp ground. In the forest and with much space between the different camping spots. It was very quiet. I would definitly come here again no questions asked :)

Horrible boat launch designed to keep us from putting our boats in the water. Beach area was nice but very busy. Whoever thought the RV campsires should be up on the hill out of view of the lake smoked too much Crack.

I live in Kamloops, but my parents come down from up north to visit me and this is their campsite of choice. I've spent a decent amount of time in the campgrounds and on the lake side. The trails are fun to hike. Not so many bugs in the past 3 years either! Playgrounds for children and plenty of washrooms and garbage cans. Also, the nearby mountain biking trails are amazing!

Nice spot, lots of room, large shelter. No lake access though.
