Perrot
Overview
Perrot State Park offers a serene and scenic retreat where the Trempealeau and Mississippi Rivers meet. This 1,200-acre park is a cornerstone of the Wisconsin state park system, famous for its dramatic river bluffs and lush, rolling landscapes. It provides a peaceful atmosphere for RVers looking to escape the noise of daily life. Visitors find themselves surrounded by prehistoric burial mounds and unique geological formations, creating a destination where natural beauty meets history in a quiet, secluded setting.
Location & Surroundings
Nestled in the famous Driftless Area of Wisconsin, the park is situated just outside the charming village of Trempealeau. The surrounding landscape is defined by steep limestone cliffs that tower 500 feet above the vast Mississippi River valley. The nearby Great River Road provides one of the most scenic drives in the Midwest, offering easy access to the park. The proximity to the river ensures a rich diversity of local flora and fauna, which changes beautifully with the passing seasons.
Amenities & Park Features
The campground features 102 sites, with 61 electric hookups specifically designed for RV travelers. While the setting is intentionally rustic to preserve the environment, the park provides modern conveniences like flush toilets, showers, and a sanitary dump station. The campsites are nestled among mature hardwood trees, offering plenty of shade and privacy. Outdoor enthusiasts can take advantage of the park's canoe and kayak rentals to explore the calm backwaters of the river lagoons.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Beyond the park boundaries, visitors can directly access the Great River State Trail, a 24-mile crushed stone path perfect for long-distance cycling and walking. Just a short drive away lies the Trempealeau National Wildlife Refuge, a prime spot for observing migratory waterfowl and bald eagles. The village of Trempealeau itself offers charming local eateries and a glimpse into river town life, while Lock and Dam No. 6 provides a fascinating look at Mississippi navigation.
Who This Park Is Best For
Perrot is ideal for nature lovers and birdwatchers who prefer a quiet, scenic environment over a bustling commercial resort. It is a fantastic choice for active RV couples or families who enjoy hiking, biking, and water-based recreation in a natural setting. Those seeking a deeper connection with the unique landscape of the Driftless Area will find this park rewarding, especially if they enjoy panoramic views and well-maintained hiking trails.

Went camping with the Scout Troop and had a great time hiking and exploring the park. The park has access to the Great River State Trail that you can bike on

I love this place some of the best and most scenic hiking trails in the wisconsin state park system that I found so far. Just be aware that these trails have a lot of elevation gain and drop and can be considered challenging to some people. But if you can brave the hike, the views are stunning. I would highly recommend.

Also left some other reviews and photos for individual attractions within the park - Perrot State Park is a lot of fun, with lots of elevation changes due to many bluffs in the park. It’s a great place to view driftless features like peaks, valleys, some outcroppings, and bluffs as mentioned Good variety of hiking, including woods, prairie, elevation, waterfall/punchbowl and short wildflower hike near the nature center Overall a good time! Perrot State Park was an excellent choice for a long weekend. Easy to Back In sites. We were in Site 32. The sites are not on top if each other - plenty of privacy. Bathrooms were the only reason this is a 4 vs a 5 Star review. The up keep was just ok, though the showers were hot. Brady's Bluff and the River loop tour was a good hike, 3.2 miles. We went up Brady's west - steeper and more stairs, but still a really good hike.
