The Feather River Cool Springs Canyon Dam is a concrete gravity dam located on the Feather River in Plumas County, California. The dam is part of the Central Valley Project, a federal water project that provides water for irrigation, municipal, and industrial uses in California. The dam was constructed between 1962 and 1965 and is owned and operated by the United States Bureau of Reclamation. The dam is located about 10 miles upstream of the town of Portola and is part of the Oroville-Thermalito Complex. The dam is used to store water for irrigation, flood control, and hydroelectric power generation. The reservoir created by the dam, Lake Oroville, is the second largest man-made lake in California. The dam is 590 feet high and 2,140 feet long, and has a maximum storage capacity of 3.5 million acre-feet. The dam also has two hydroelectric power plants with a combined capacity of 1,100 megawatts.
