Picacho / Tucson NW KOA Journey

Good place to stay to visit the local area like picacho state park or the casa grande ruins. The roads in the campground get pretty dusty so slow speed is a must. The size of the paw pens is a little small to be useful.

A very nice KOA located west of Tucson, Arizona and east of the I-10 and I-8 intersection near Casa Grande. Very close to Pacacho Peak mountain trails. Swimming pool is heated, very large room inside with seating, TV, games and book exchange. The host and owner was very friendly and accommodating. A very nice young man led us to our RV spot and made sure we had everything we needed. Level gravel sites and nice large lots. Very will priced! Also private RV spots with decks and fencing. We will definitely stay there again. Thank you for welcoming us.

After several days at Picacho Peak State Park without full hookups, arriving at Picacho / Tucson NW KOA Journey felt like the kind of reset you do not fully appreciate until you need it. We arrived a bit early while the office was closed for lunch, but the large parking area out front made it easy to pull in, park, and have lunch without any stress. Once they reopened, check-in was smooth, everyone was friendly, and being escorted to our site was a great first impression. Our site was a large pull-through with full hookups (everything worked flawlessly), and even though you do not choose your own site, we ended up in one we likely would have picked ourselves. Site 69 was under a huge willow tree with a wide view over nearby farmland, and watching cows and horses grazing gave the whole stay a calm, open feel right away. The willow tree also provided real shade, which made a noticeable difference during the day. The biggest shift for us was how easy everything felt. After being without water and sewer, having full hookups again made this stop feel less like a pass through and more like a place to actually settle in and recharge. The gravel roads and gravel sites were straightforward to navigate, and the park felt very big-rig friendly with plenty of room to maneuver. Sites are well spaced and easy to pull into, with a layout that feels open rather than tight. It was also noticeably quiet. Despite being close to I-10, it felt surprisingly peaceful, especially at night, and with very few people around us it was easy to relax after more active stops earlier in the trip. From a family perspective, this KOA works really well. There is a playground, a dog park, and a large jellybean-shaped pool that gave the kids space to play and unwind. The rules for children were clear and reasonable, like staying with an adult and no playing after sunset, which helped keep the environment safe without feeling restrictive. One of the most memorable details was their “follow the rules, get a cookie” system. On our way out, our boys ran into the office to let them know they had followed the rules and came back out with cookies in hand. It was such a simple idea, but it made the experience feel personal and stuck with them more than anything else. We also had a bundle of firewood delivered right to our site, which was convenient and added to the overall ease of the stay. Overall, this is a great example of a stop that does more than just meet basic needs. It is practical, quiet, and well run, but also has enough thoughtful touches to make it feel welcoming and memorable. It works well for both a quick overnight stop or a few days to reset. If you are traveling through this part of Arizona and want a place where you can recharge, enjoy the stop, and feel genuinely welcomed, this is absolutely worth it.

This is the best KOA we have stayed at! It’s so obvious that the owners care and work hard to keep the campground well maintained and clean. The showers are top notch! The grounds are beautifully kept and the sites are clean and flat. You can hear the nearby freeway but after awhile it just becomes white noise. Give these wonderful folks your business, you will not be disappointed! 5 stars all around!

Great location, nestled right in the middle of Tucson and Phoenix. Lots of hiking and ATV riding trails nearby. It's about 45 minutes to an hour to the big cities. So daytrips and relaxing are the name of the game. Clean campsites, clean bathrooms, showers, pool (not heated), and playground for the kids. This is an all ages campground. Dog friendly-great dog run! Camp hosts are great! Don't hesitate and book it today!

We just spent 11 nights at this amazing campground and have 0 complaints. The staff was amazing, we loved the welcome pack of goodies, it was quiet and very clean! Our 2 dogs enjoyed their private area right at our site, as well! Thank you for a relaxing stay. My husband and I would recommend this campground if you should be in the area, it is located centrally between Tucson and Phoenix. We did our shopping in Casa Grande, where they have plenty of restaurants also. Just a 17 mile drive. Again, we thank you for a nice stay 😊

Awesome KOA. Very clean and organized. Professional and courteous staff. Water pressure in the shower is amazing as is the shower head. This KOA sells the best firewood I’ve ever purchased. I highly recommend stopping by this KOA! Thank you very much for making my wife and I feel very welcomed, comfortable and be able to truly relax and enjoy our stay!

We had just a quick overnight stay. The staff was very nice and helpful. Great wide, level & long pull-thru site that was nicely groomed. Some freeway noise as to be expected but not enough to keep us awake.

A Great campground when travelling! We came in Late and could find a place by Self registration. The sites are very big with full hook up. The campground is very well taken care of, Big playground for the Kids, nice , fresh Pool. The showers are great. There is a bit of noise from the Highway, but I think you can‘t have it all. In the Morning we could watch the Cowboys training to catch cattle, there is a Ranch close to the campground. We enjoyed staying here, the owner is a very friendly lady.

We just completed our third stay at the Picacho/Tucson NW KOA Journey. Located less than an hour from our home, it is a wonderful getaway. We have enjoyed seeing what the owners have done to the property over the years! You can see the pride of ownership and love for what they do with the cleanliness of the camp, customer service and amenities they provide. Our kids love hanging out at the clubhouse - playing games and working on communal puzzles with other guests. The store is well stocked with excellent prices. We had to purchase mayonnaise and it wasn’t any more expensive than what I would spend at Walmart. We treated our family to ice cream treats from the store and commented on how reasonably priced they are! This is a wonderful place to get away for a few days or stop at while traveling. We hope to start camping here regularly and hope others will do the same! Let’s support this wonderful family and their business!

My family and I took a small trip to the Picacho Koa to try out or new trailer. The staff and owner were so kind and friendly! The campground was quiet and clean. The park and rec room were wonderful. Our 4 year old loved the games and the train table. My husband and I loved playing their large game of checkers. The small shop they have is affordable and not marked up like other places we have been to. Our only complaint, which isnt a huge deal, were the ants around the pool. My daughter(4) and I walked down the road to see the horses. The campground has a few hummingbird feeders and the hummingbirds were out enjoying the treat. And the second night we got to see some toads that came out during a light rain. Overall, I can say, we had a great experience. We will definitely be back! Thank you for making our trip so memorable.

This is owned by a very nice couple. Everything was very clean and they were very helpful from the moment we arrived. Would use this location again and would highly recommend it. One of the best parts, no longer term rentals with junk all around their site and their rigs looking like they could not be moved.

Right off I10 easily found. Very clean, well taken care of. Management was very customer friendly. Sadly we didn't need to spend the night there and left early. We will however return for a weekend stay. The full hook up pull through lots are spacious and very well kept. It was very peaceful and quite while we were there for our short time.
