Piedmont Marina Mill Lake & Campground

Overview

Piedmont Marina & Campground, located on the shores of the expansive Piedmont Lake, offers a peaceful retreat for outdoor enthusiasts in Eastern Ohio. As part of the Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District, this destination prioritizes a connection with nature. It provides a tranquil atmosphere where travelers can unwind away from the hustle of city life. Whether you are arriving for a weekend of fishing or a longer seasonal stay, the park serves as a gateway to some of the most scenic water views in the region.

Location & Surroundings

Situated near Freeport, OH, the park is nestled within a landscape of rolling hills and dense woodlands. The centerpiece is the 2,270-acre reservoir, which is famous for its irregular shoreline and deep, cool waters. This rugged topography creates a secluded feel, making the campground feel like a hidden gem. The surrounding area is largely undeveloped, allowing for uninterrupted star-gazing and a quiet environment that is increasingly rare for modern RV travelers.

Amenities & Park Features

The park provides a variety of site options, including those with full hookups and more primitive spots for a traditional experience. One of the standout features is the full-service marina, which offers boat rentals, fuel, and docking supplies. On-site facilities include:

  • Clean shower houses and modern restrooms
  • A playground for younger visitors
  • A camp store stocked with snacks and fishing gear

These amenities ensure that while you are deep in nature, you still have access to the essential comforts of home during your stay.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Fishing is the primary draw here, as Piedmont Lake is legendary for its trophy muskellunge and channel catfish. Boaters can spend days exploring the secluded coves and inlets that define the lake's perimeter. Beyond the water, visitors can explore the nearby Harrison State Forest, which offers miles of rugged trails for hiking. For those interested in local history, the quiet town of Freeport provides a glimpse into the rural charm of Appalachian Ohio, with small shops and a relaxed pace of life.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is ideally suited for dedicated anglers and boating enthusiasts who want immediate access to the water. It is a perfect match for RVers who prefer a rustic, nature-focused vibe over the high-energy environment of a commercial luxury resort. Families looking to disconnect from digital distractions will find the lakefront setting perfect for building memories. If your travel style favors quiet evenings by a campfire and early mornings on the lake, this is the destination for you.

Had to get the kayaks stickers renewed and very friendly, efficient, informative and knowledgeable staff. Answered questions about the lake. Has everything there that you would need to make your day or night out on the lake.

I have been coming to this lake since I was a little girl, staying on our houseboat, and it's still as gorgeous as ever. My brother docks his pontoon at the Marina. It is a great fishing lake or to take a peaceful boat ride. Beautiful lake to kayak on. You normally don't have to worry about 20 boats zipping past you bouncing you all around in their waves while you're trying to kayak or fish. Mostly, everyone is courteous on and off of the water. They have a little swimming area called boaters beach for people to swim. My one and only complaint is that you have to have a boat to get to Boaters Beach. We no longer have our house boat anymore, but we have camped in the cabins, which were absolutely gorgeous, and clean. The larger cabin could use a better AC. Wi-Fi would have been nice bur not a deal breaker. But both of my kids got a bit bored, and I couldn't exactly expect my brother to just keep taking his boat out. They do have a play area for little kids, a nice basketball court, and hiking available, but it was misrable hot outside. It would have been great if they could walk to a small swimming place. I truly hope that in the future, they will think about having a small swimming area for campers and those that dock there all summer. I gave it 5 stars because I will always love this lake.

Gorgeous lake marina! Stunning deck dining, friendly staff, & boat/kayak rentals 😊. Clean RV sites, new tiny houses, & upgraded showers. Fishing, walking, & boating for all ages. Affordable, open year-round! Just got a boat—eyeing a slip next spring. Quiet gem, tons of memories! 9/10, we’ll return! 🌊
