Pigeon Lake

Overview

Pigeon Lake Provincial Park offers a quintessential Alberta camping experience nestled along the western shores of one of the province's most popular recreational lakes. Known for its lush forest canopy and easy water access, this park provides a peaceful retreat for RVers looking to escape the city without sacrificing comfort. The park balances a natural wilderness feel with the infrastructure needed for a relaxed stay, making it a staple destination for regional travelers during the warmer months.

Location & Surroundings

Located near the charming hamlet of Westerose, AB, the park is situated within the scenic parkland of Central Alberta. The landscape is characterized by dense stands of aspen and spruce trees, which provide excellent privacy and wind protection between campsites. Its proximity to major centers like Edmonton makes it an accessible getaway, while its position on the lake's western edge offers stunning views and a refreshing atmosphere away from the highway noise.

Amenities & Park Features

The park is well-equipped for RV travelers, offering a variety of sites including those with reliable power hookups to accommodate modern rigs. Visitors have access to clean washrooms with flush toilets and modern shower facilities, ensuring a comfortable experience for the whole family. For those bringing watercraft, the park features a paved boat launch and a dedicated pier. Additional amenities include a large playground, well-maintained picnic areas, and a convenient onsite sani-dump station for departing trailers.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Water-based recreation is the primary draw at Pigeon Lake. The water is a favorite spot for walleye and northern pike fishing, as well as kayaking and sailing. On land, miles of interconnected trails wind through the forest, perfect for hiking or birdwatching. Just a short drive away, the Village at Pigeon Lake offers a collection of boutique shops, grocery services, and local dining, providing a nice balance between rugged camping and modern convenience.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is ideal for family campers who want a safe and engaging environment for children to explore the outdoors. It also caters well to anglers and boaters who prioritize quick, easy lake access. Because of the heavy tree cover and spacious site design, it is a great fit for RVers who value privacy and shade. It is best suited for those seeking a traditional provincial park atmosphere that emphasizes nature over resort-style commercial activities.

I love this little place. They have the neatest little shops here. Great place to visit in the summer. Also there is a beautiful walk way tucked in behind. Great for strolls in the forest and to take your dog for a walk

Cute place to grab a cone with a trademark jelly bean in the bottom, a coffee break, how about grab a gift or groceries, hit up the bakery for an apple strudel? Its got a bit of everything.

Getting to the Village is a beautiful drive through the country side and lots of good things to explore when you arrive! Shops, food, ice cream and the lake, of course!

I almost don't want to give this little hidden gem of pure paradise a good review so flocks of people don't flood it - this will be our secret .The grocery store has the absolute best meat (locally sourced beef - best steak ever) and bakery. Surrounded by absolutely everything you need -- gas, weed, booze, gifts, clothes shopping etc.. The surrounding community is filled with a family atmosphere and a safe environment with lots to do. You just don't want to leave so don't come;0)

There is a little commercial square built on an adorable boardwalk that's the letter-perfect place to spend a lazy afternoon. The Eco Cafe was a wonderful visit. Both my companion and I can recommend the steak, creamy potatoes and mixed veg. You must also visit the Village Emporium & Boutique. Watch for surprise treasures. And there's more. Next visit, I plan to try Daisy McBeans' Cafe. Honestly, who can resist that name? Cheers.
