Pike-San Isabel/Parry Peak
Overview
Parry Peak Campground, managed within the Pike-San Isabel National Forest, offers a quintessential Colorado mountain experience. Situated near the base of the state's highest peaks, this rustic facility provides a peaceful escape for travelers seeking immersion in nature rather than modern luxury. It serves as an excellent basecamp for exploring the rugged Sawatch Range and the stunning glacial waters that define the Twin Lakes region.
Location & Surroundings
The campground is nestled at an elevation of approximately 9,400 feet, surrounded by a dense canopy of lodgepole pine and aspen trees. Visitors are located just a short distance from the shores of Twin Lakes, which offer iconic views of Mount Elbert. The approach to the park via Highway 82 is widely considered one of the most scenic drives in North America, particularly during the autumn when the hillsides turn a vibrant gold.
Amenities & Park Features
This location is a traditional forest service site, meaning amenities are focused on providing a primitive and authentic outdoor stay. Guests have access to vault toilets and potable water, though it is important to note there are no electric, water, or sewer hookups available for RVs. Each individual site features a picnic table and a fire ring, catering to self-contained travelers who enjoy a quiet atmosphere away from the bustle of commercial resorts.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Outdoor enthusiasts can easily access the North Elbert Trail to begin the journey toward Colorado's highest summit. The nearby lakes provide ample opportunities for trout fishing, kayaking, and paddleboarding in clear alpine waters. For a touch of history, visitors can hike to the Interlaken Resort historic site, or take a scenic drive over Independence Pass to experience high-altitude vistas and the unique tundra environment above the tree line.
Who This Park Is Best For
This destination is ideal for boondockers and minimalist RVers who prioritize spectacular scenery and direct trail access over utility connections. It is a perfect fit for photographers, hikers, and anglers who want to be steps away from the wilderness. Because of its serene and rustic nature, it appeals most to those looking to disconnect from technology and enjoy the pristine quiet of the National Forest.

100% 5 star review! One of our absolute favorite campgrounds. We've stayed in a couple spots however I'm not going to say the numbers because we have our favorite spots. Grounds are clean, quiet and the camp host is amazing. The camp host is nice and personable, I cant say enough great things about him. Thank you for the great experience (and we're glad we stayed the extra night).

This is a great little campground with super clean vault bathrooms. It was nice to meet the hosts they were real cool. The creek is beautiful and there are fantastic views everywhere.

Awesome location! Mostly sites for trailers, but we stayed at site #25 (tent only) which was perfect. Only a few steps away from the water, which was moving very fast mid-June, so I wouldn't recommend to families with small children but perfect spot to filter your own water.
