Pine Flat Lake - COE/Trimmer

Overview

Pine Flat Lake - COE/Trimmer offers a rugged and serene getaway nestled deep within the scenic Sierra Nevada foothills. Managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, this destination is defined by its expansive blue water views and incredibly peaceful atmosphere. It is a prime choice for travelers seeking a traditional camping experience where the natural beauty of the landscape takes center stage. The park provides a quiet retreat far away from the bustle of city life, making it a reliable staple for outdoor enthusiasts visiting the San Joaquin Valley area.

Location & Surroundings

Located in Piedra, CA, the park is perched along the northern shores of Pine Flat Lake, a massive reservoir fed by the snowmelt of the Kings River. The surrounding landscape features steep, rolling hills and ancient scattered oak trees, creating a dramatic backdrop for golden-hour photography. Travelers will appreciate the winding scenic drive through the lower elevations of the mountains to reach this remote location, where the air is crisp and the night sky is exceptionally clear and free from urban light pollution.

Amenities & Park Features

As a COE facility, the Trimmer area focuses on providing essential comforts for nature lovers rather than high-end luxury resort amenities. The campsites are primarily equipped with paved parking pads, sturdy fire rings, and heavy-duty picnic tables. While there are no electrical or water hookups available at the individual sites, the park provides access to clean potable water stations and well-maintained vault toilets. Boaters will particularly appreciate the nearby paved boat launch, which allows for seamless transitions from the campsite to the water.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

The primary draw of this region is the water, offering endless opportunities for boating, kayaking, and jet skiing across the reservoir's vast surface. Anglers frequent the area to test their skills against local bass, crappie, and trout populations. Beyond the water, the nearby Kings River is a famous spot for white-water rafting adventures during the spring season. For those who prefer land-based exploration, the surrounding Sierra National Forest offers a gateway to rugged hiking trails and diverse wildlife viewing just a short drive away.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is best suited for self-contained RVers who enjoy the freedom of boondocking-style camping while still having a level, paved place to park. It is a perfect match for families who are passionate about water sports and groups looking for a spacious, nature-centric environment to reconnect. If you value solitude and lakefront access over modern digital amenities like Wi-Fi or clubhouse swimming pools, Trimmer at Pine Flat Lake offers the authentic, rustic California outdoor experience you have been searching for.

Went because thought it was a lake but it’s a reservoir built by humans. I’m not a fan of dams as they ruined natural ecosystems, instead of us living with the land. They dumped over half; so this is not a very good water front camping as you never know the water level. Campground very dirty littered with trash, we picked up most of it doing the rangers job. Spot 1 was the best location away from the other location but the others are pretty close to each other. Bathrooms unavailable but still being cleaned? Area has a yellow jacket problem so be prepared. If this was a true lake(natural) and actually maintained this would be a nice spot.

The best RV campground I have been to. The road definitely can appreciate some touch of love. The view of Pine Flat Lake though is awesome. Only 10 sites mixed use of tents and RVs yet it has a hot water shower. I was on the hunt for Spring flowers blooming. Visited it late March. Decent blooms. April would have been more? First time to the area but will be back many more times to just chill and relax.

Very nice place to camp, however me and my husband experienced was a bit weird, just only us no other camper, so peaceful till 8pm a pick up truck drove and park his truck on site #9 and we're on site 2, so I'm wondering why? Beside for reservation online on that date no other reserved just us. So I told my husband maybe the driver need some place to sleep and can't drive long till he get home. However my husband feel bad vibes with that driver of pick up truck so we decided to packed our things and leave the campsite. We're not afraid of any animals but human don't know, hard to trust to anyone.
