Pine Point Campground (Chippewa County)

Overview

Located on a scenic peninsula within the expansive Lake Holcombe Flowage, Pine Point Campground offers a quintessential Wisconsin outdoor experience. Managed by Chippewa County, this park is known for its tall pines and peaceful atmosphere. It provides a balanced blend of rustic charm and essential comforts, making it a popular choice for those looking to escape the bustle of more commercial resorts. The park’s layout takes full advantage of its waterfront setting, ensuring that the beauty of the Northwoods is never more than a few steps away from your site.

Location & Surroundings

Situated in Holcombe, WI, the campground sits surrounded by the 3,800-acre Lake Holcombe Flowage. The geography of the park is its standout feature; being on a peninsula means water views are frequent and access is effortless. The surrounding landscape is characterized by dense hardwood forests and calm inlets, providing a sheltered environment for campers. Visitors will find themselves immersed in a natural sanctuary where the sounds of the water and local wildlife define the daily rhythm of the trip.

Amenities & Park Features

While the vibe is distinctly natural, the park includes several electric hookup sites to accommodate modern RV travelers. Practical needs are met through several key features:

  • A centrally located on-site dump station and fresh water fill.
  • Well-maintained vault toilets and convenient trash disposal.
  • Fire rings and picnic tables at every individual site.

For those traveling with watercraft, the improved boat launch is a major benefit, allowing for easy transitions from the campsite to the lake. Families often appreciate the on-site playground and the designated picnic areas that offer shade under the mature pine canopy.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

The primary draw here is undoubtedly the water, with the flowage being a premier destination for musky and walleye fishing. Boating and kayaking are popular ways to explore the winding shorelines of the lake. Just a short drive away, visitors can explore the village of Holcombe or visit the impressive Holcombe Dam. For those willing to travel slightly further, the Chippewa River State Trail offers miles of scenic paths for biking and hiking through the heart of northern Wisconsin’s picturesque countryside.

Who This Park Is Best For

Pine Point Campground is an ideal fit for avid anglers and boaters who want direct access to one of the region’s best fisheries. It also appeals to families seeking a traditional camping experience where the focus is on outdoor exploration rather than luxury amenities. Great little campground! Has small beach and easy access to water! New showers and real toilets. Only complaint were the picnic tables on the sites. They were rickety and some started to sway or collapse.

Beautiful area and lots of wildlife! The campsites are not the easiest to back in to, lots of large rocks and logs. But the sites are distant enough from one another. Everything was kept very clean, the bathrooms, playground area and beach. They pick up your garbage enough too. If you need to use a shower there, they are $2 in quarters!!!! There is no change machine nearby on site so make sure you bring quarters. The beach and water was clean but a very small area and people did not follow the rules of having their dogs on the beach and water like the signs posted while we were there!!! And firewood is also pretty pricey, a lot more pricey than other campsites. $6.00. We had a nice time but be prepared it is a little more pricey than other campgrounds. Our site number was #8, I posted photos below in our review.

We had a dock right outside our door for our boat. Sites could have been a little deeper and angled a little better to back in our camper is 42' and a few less trees

Very quiet campground, neighbors are far enough away but groups can use the trails to get to neighboring sites quickly. Biggest down side to this camp is firewood is too expensive for the amount of wood you get compared to other county parks, highly recommended to bring your own. Best sites are on the water!

Absolutely beautiful campground, however, campsite sizes are deceptive as there are logs, boulders, and tree's lining the roads and each campsite pad. We recently booked a site and were unable to get into 5 different sites with a 40' 5th wheel. I would not recommend going here with anything larger than 28' unless you are familiar with the specific site you're reserving. No refund due to being oversized, camp host was not onsite when we arrived at 7pm on a Thursday to offer different options so we landed up finding another place to camp.
