5 stars for evey thing. Unfortunately, it is closed until further notice because of hurricane/ flooding damage to roads leading to it and the campground itself. One of my favorite campgrounds. Will be missed!

Best campground around! I have been camping here for over a decade with my family. This place holds my heart in its rivers and trees. I can't wait till we are able to go back to the place we love so much.. P.S. bring back the ice cream ( me and my cousins would walk to the front to river walk and eat ice cream ever time, we miss it)

This is one of the best campgrounds in NC. Kevin & Candy and the hosts were amazing. We were originally staying at Carolina Hemlocks, but let to stay at the Black Mountain Campground. They were so friendly and created the camping vibe we were looking for. We will definitely come back. The only reason we came was due to how great Tim was when we stayed at Carolina Hemlocks last May. I'm glad to see he is still around.

We had the best time camping with our son for his first time! The Black Mountain Campground was the perfect spot for us. The area was well maintained and close to several trails with various levels of difficulty. The short hike to the waterfall was perfect for our son who usually says, "Mom, will you carry me". The staff on-site at the campground were warm and inviting the entire time. You can tell they really care about maintaining the area. The river was a short walk from our campsite and it was mesmerizing to watch and walk along every day. My son didn't want to leave, which is a sign we need to go back soon!

Thank you Kevin and Candie for being such great camp host. Kevin went the extra mile to make sure my cousin and I had a great spot, site 15 was peaceful with the sounds of the creek. The restrooms and showers were clean. Kevin and Candie were attentive, friendly host and checked in on campers to see if they needed anything. The campground is beautiful. Easy access to Mount Mitchell trail head.

Close proximity to several trails. Be sure to take the short hike to Setrock Creek Falls. Free maps are available at the office. We stayed at site 8, which was right next to the water supply, a short walk to the restrooms and to river access. We found a couple of good swimming holes, but the water was too cold for us, even in August! Nights are chilly too.

Awesome area, lots of shady spots yo get away from the sun. Also an open field if you want sun, and great for star gazing at night. Lots of trails of varying skill levels, and one that keads to a water fall. Bathrooms are always clean, as well as the campsite itself.

Went here for the first time summer 2021 and stayed a week. We loved this place!! Definitely on our list to return to. Facilities were cleaned daily. We had a nice campsite that was right on a field that they had provided some activities ( volleyball net and ball, Cornhole, football etc...) Lawn was well maintained. There were hiking trails not far to go explore one even had a waterfall. There was another waterfall with about a 15drive and a short hike to. Mt. Mitchell was just about a 45min drive. Was a nice little day trip. If needing to purchase ice and firewood I recommend going back to the main road to a little general store. Firewood was $3 cheaper there, and the ice is also a few bucks cheaper. Dog friendly however recommend shoes for your pups if they play hard in the water. One of our boys tore up his pads playing on the rocks.

We didn't camp but I did get a shower there. $5 per person for non-campers but well worth it. Showers are spacious and clean and the water has good flow and the perfect temperature. Ranger gave us some good advice about bears and backcountry camping in general. Free parking across the road for the Mt. Mitchell Trail.

This is an absolutely beautiful Campground. Very well maintained with clean bathrooms and there are also showers. Everyone there was absolutely wonderful. We did not have reservations but you can make them online. They have first come first serve as well.
