While the beach area is nothing special, the scenic trail around Lake Powhatan is a definite highlight. You'll find a nice picnic area right by the parking lot and beach. Keep in mind that the fishing pier is accessed from a different road, and restrooms are conveniently located at the top of the steps.

A great campground in the Pisgah National Forest just outside of Asheville NC. The staff was great, friendly and helpful. The restrooms and showers were very clean and well kept up as was the entire campground. We stayed in site 46 in the Lakeside loop. All sites (36 - 57), in that loop are paved sites with full hookups. You'll need leveling blocks as the sites have a pretty good pitch to the drivers side rear corner. Additional notes, it is black bear country, so be aware of your surroundings for yourself and your pets! Easy access to the Blue Ridge Parkway entrance.

The campground was nice, the sites were well-situated and our kids loved the beach area. The camp hosts were not very attentive and the restrooms were not well-maintained. We were frequently down to only 1 stall for 30+ people on our loop for over 24 hours before they unlocked or cleaned them. Other than that we very much enjoyed our stay

Nice place to explore near Asheville!

The place is amazing for hiking and mountain biking. Warning for biking, it's more designed for hiking, and way more uphill biking than most will want. No aggressive downhill trails. Definitely also a cool place to camp.

Beautiful Park, clean restrooms, nice swimming area. Friendly employees! Only downfall is having to back into the campsite. When retrieving items from vehicles my headlights shined on campers across from me. Park is VERY Particular about reserving their trees and ground floor where parking is. Can only park on gravel not In leaves. Have to put something behind ropes to attach to trees so not to ruin their trees. Asheville is a busy area. There is lots to do, so no boredom. We will go again next year

We just wanted to do a quick ride through & see if we would even want to reserve a spot. We had no issues at any of the other campgrounds in the area. They were all very nice & allowed us to do so. We had never been there before & there aren't but one or two pictures online of the campsites. We were told it would be $15.00. ( $5.00 per person) & that fee was to protect people's privacy, which absolutely makes no sense whatsoever. (I guess if we had paid the $15 ..we could invade people's privacy?)... extremely rude girl working at the gate!

The campground looks nice, but I have not stayed there. The lake is great! It's small, with numerous spots along the shoreline for fishing. There is a recently rebuilt pier for more fishing. That's just before the dam. You can look over the dam from either side, and swim in the hole below it if you like. This is also another fishing spot. The creek and lake are both Hatchery Supported public waters, and thus have trout to go along with the standard mix. The far side of the lake has a beach that adjoins the limited swimming area. This is a great spot for a day trip, or an entire week/end if you have the time. And don't forget the miles of easily accessible hiking and mountain biking trails. And the forest roads for the gravel grinding set are a good ride.

I can not believe some people are complaining as we have always been treated with respect. Apparently some are just not happy people and find fault with everything. This is a wonderful park and we always leave our site in better condition than when we got here as all should do.
