Plumas/Sundew
Overview
Sundew Campground provides a serene, rustic escape within the Plumas National Forest. Located near the small community of Meadow Valley, this well-shaded facility is managed by the USDA Forest Service to preserve the natural landscape. It serves as a quiet, secluded alternative to busier lakeside resorts, offering travelers a deep, authentic connection to the Sierra Nevada mountains. The park is defined by its towering ponderosa pines, incense cedars, and its proximity to the gentle, melodic sounds of Spanish Creek, creating a perfect atmosphere for relaxation.
Location & Surroundings
Nestled at an elevation of approximately 3,800 feet, the park is situated conveniently just off Bucks Lake Road. The surroundings are characterized by dense coniferous forests and expansive, wildflower-filled meadows that bloom vibrantly during the late spring months. Its strategic position in Meadow Valley places travelers within a short, scenic drive of the charming mountain town of Quincy. The area is a premier haven for those seeking a cool mountain climate and fresh air during the peak of the California summer heat.
Amenities & Park Features
As a primitive forest service site, the amenities focus strictly on the essentials to maintain a wilderness atmosphere. Visitors will find clean vault toilets and reliable access to potable water via shared spigots throughout the camping season. Each individual site is thoughtfully equipped with a heavy-duty fire ring and a sturdy wooden picnic table for outdoor dining. While there are no electrical, water, or sewer hookups available, the sites are relatively level and offer enough space for smaller RVs and travel trailers to settle comfortably under the forest canopy.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Diverse outdoor recreation is the primary draw for this specific region of the Plumas National Forest. The Cascade Trail is a popular nearby hiking route that leads visitors through lush greenery and rocky outcrops toward scenic water features. Anglers often frequent the nearby Spanish Creek for a quiet afternoon of trout fishing, while the expansive Bucks Lake is located just a few miles further west for motorized boating, kayaking, and swimming. The nearby town of Quincy offers local boutiques, historic museums, and local dining for those wanting to explore the regional culture.

I love seeing the carnivorous plants and the meadows, I have a feeling that the conservation corps are out here helping restore the landscape after the fires
Lone Wolf Jeep Adventures
My only peace in life is when I'm spending time in God's country. Although no snow in late December, 😡 I still take the Jeep out and explore, hike and sit beside a warm fire 🔥 when I get a chance. I find beauty in everything I see, taste and feel, and even though I have not had my snow this year to snowshoe, 🎿 I'm grateful that I can still find my solitude beside a raging river with a campfire as I welcome the storm. Plumas National Forest is beautiful in her own way. It's not my Montana, but she's a good runner up. 🏔️🔥🍁🪵🏞️

Plumas National Forest, is renowned for its diverse landscapes, including dense forests, lakes, and mountainous terrain. The scenic beauty attracts outdoor enthusiasts with opportunities for hiking, camping, and fishing. It's a haven for nature lovers seeking a tranquil escape. You avoid the crowds but cell service may be limited. Nature is unforgiving of fools so be prepared for anything that the weather may spring at you.
