Pocomoke River/Milburn Landing Area

Overview

The Pocomoke River Milburn Landing Area offers a serene escape into the deep woods of Maryland’s Eastern Shore. Located within the expansive Pocomoke River State Park, this section is celebrated for its dense loblolly pine forests and mysterious cypress swamps. Unlike the larger Shad Landing area across the water, Milburn Landing provides a more secluded and intimate atmosphere where the sounds of the forest take center stage. It serves as a premier destination for travelers seeking a deep connection with nature along the edges of the scenic blackwater river, known for its deep tea-colored waters and ancient trees.

Location & Surroundings

Situated just outside the historic town of Snow Hill, MD, this park is nestled on the northern bank of the Pocomoke River. The environment is defined by its unique coastal plain forest, which is one of the northernmost stands of bald cypress in the United States. The surrounding Pocomoke State Forest encompasses over 18,000 acres of protected land, providing a vast buffer of wilderness. This location offers a striking contrast to the nearby Atlantic beach towns, trading sandy dunes for lush, green canopies and tranquil riverside vistas that feel worlds away from the busy coast.

Amenities & Park Features

The camping area features approximately 30 sites, with several offering electric hookups that accommodate RVs up to 40 feet in length. While the park prioritizes a rustic experience, guests have access to several conveniences:

  • Access to a modern bathhouse with hot showers and flushing toilets.
  • An on-site boat ramp for easy access to the Pocomoke River.
  • Centrally located sanitary dump station for RV waste.

The campsites are well-spaced to provide privacy, and most are nestled under a heavy forest canopy, ensuring a cool and shaded environment during the peak of summer.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Outdoor enthusiasts can explore miles of multi-use trails, including the Tarr Swamp Trail, which showcases the area's unique flora and fauna. The Pocomoke River is a designated wild and scenic river, making it a favorite for kayaking and birdwatching, with frequent sightings of prothonotary warblers and bald eagles. Visitors can drive to the nearby Julia A. Purnell Museum in Snow Hill or take a short 45-minute trip to see the famous wild ponies at Assateague Island National Seashore. The local Nassawango Creek Preserve also offers additional hiking opportunities for those seeking solitude.

Who This Park Is Best For

This destination is perfectly suited for nature photographers and anglers who want to immerse themselves in the biodiversity of the Chesapeake Bay watershed. It is an ideal choice for RVers who prefer a quiet, natural setting over the amenities of a high-traffic commercial resort. Families looking for an educational outdoor experience and solo travelers seeking a peaceful retreat will find Milburn Landing to be a rewarding stop. It is best for those with self-contained units who value wildlife viewing and river paddling over high-speed connectivity and urban conveniences.

Great park with nice hikes. Only electric hook ups at Acorn Loop. The water spigots dotted around the loop were not working. Had to get water at the dish wash area next to the bathrooms.

Great campground. Bathrooms & showers kept fairly clean. Nice, quiet, and relaxing. Bonus not far from all the fun locations

Beautiful campground with tall trees and wooded sites. Some loops have electric but not water. Plenty of trails to hike and park roads to bicycle. There is a pool, a camp store, and the river to kayak on. The bathrooms are fine. One problem is the horseflies so bring bug spray! The park is pet friendly.

This is a large, no huge, state park with plenty to do. Hiking, boating with landing for your craft, camping, and store that has a rec room and snack shop that includes good ice cream.

Great little park close to home. Not too crowded, still a pretty quiet place to go disconnect and explore. I've done some fantastic fishing out here in the past too.
