This 620-acre park offers a tranquil escape centered around the serene **25-acre Poe Lake**, which serves as the heart of the valley. It is a favorite for travelers seeking a deep connection with nature, providing a quiet alternative to more developed tourist regions while maintaining a high standard of natural beauty and historical significance.
Location & Surroundings
Located near the small village of Coburn, PA, the park is entirely surrounded by the expansive **Bald Eagle State Forest**. The drive into the valley takes you through winding, forested roads that immediately establish a sense of adventure and isolation. Its unique position within a mountain "cup" creates a peaceful atmosphere where the sounds of the forest replace the noise of the highway, making it an ideal mountain retreat for those looking to immerse themselves in the **Appalachian landscape**.
Amenities & Park Features
The campground at Poe Valley offers 45 sites, with many equipped with **50-amp electric hookups** to accommodate modern RVs. While the park maintains a rustic vibe, guests have access to essential comforts including modern restrooms with flush toilets and **warm showers**. A dump station and potable water are centrally located for convenience. During the summer, the park features a swimming beach and a seasonal snack bar that provides refreshments for campers and day-use visitors alike.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Poe Lake is a primary draw for visitors, offering excellent opportunities for **kayaking, canoeing, and swimming**. Anglers frequently visit to test their luck with the lake's trout population. For those who prefer land-based activities, the park provides access to the extensive **Mid State Trail** system. Nearby, you can explore the famous Penns Creek for world-class fly fishing or visit the historic town of Boalsburg for a taste of local culture and Pennsylvania history.
Who This Park Is Best For
This park is best suited for RVers who prioritize **tranquility and outdoor recreation** over resort-style amenities. It is a fantastic choice for families looking to unplug, as cell service is limited, encouraging a true "off-the-grid" experience. If you enjoy **stargazing and forest hiking**, Poe Valley provides a quiet, dark-sky environment that is increasingly hard to find, making it perfect for nature photographers and those seeking a slow-paced travel style.

We stayed in the Poe Valley Campground and really enjoyed it. Being surrounded by hills and having access to the cute little lake was beautiful. The restroom facilities were surprisingly well taken care of and clean. The only thing that is less than ideal about the place is the access. You need to drive through mountain roads for a few miles to get there. A few firewood selling camps along the way in case you need them 👍🏻

It is a 6 mile drive off the main road and 5 of it is gravel... that aside the lake is beautiful with a nice but small swimming area. They do have changing rooms, restrooms, and a seasonal concession stand. Fishing and kayaking are welcome.

Went to see if anyone was ice fishing. No one around but me and a frozen lake. Hung out enjoyed the peace and quiet as it snowed. You do need all wheel or four wheel to get up the icy roads. But if you are into hanging out in cold weather. Nice place to be.

Great out of the way state park. If you want to unplug and unwind this is the place. The views are amazing if you want to drive on the mountain roads. Added bonus for fly fishers it's only 3 miles from Penns Creek. Looking forward to scheduling a trip for the green drake hatch.
