Purden Lake
Overview
Purden Lake Provincial Park offers a quintessential British Columbia wilderness experience tucked within the northern interior. This park is centered around the clear waters of Purden Lake and provides a peaceful retreat for those traveling the Yellowhead Highway. It serves as a lush sanctuary where the dense forest meets the shoreline, offering a quiet escape from the road. The atmosphere here is centered on connecting with nature rather than resort-style luxuries, making it a favorite for those seeking peace and quiet.
Location & Surroundings
Situated approximately 64 kilometers east of Prince George near the community of Sinclair Mills, the park is easy to access yet feels remarkably remote. The landscape is dominated by sub-boreal spruce and balsam forests, creating a cool, shaded environment even during the height of summer. The Cariboo Mountains provide a distant, majestic backdrop, while the lake itself acts as the primary focal point for all park activities and scenery, offering stunning mirrored reflections on calm mornings.
Amenities & Park Features
The park features 78 vehicle-accessible campsites, many of which are quite spacious and well-screened by natural vegetation for privacy. While there are no hookups available at this location, the park provides essential services including a sani-station for RV waste, hand pumps for water, and well-maintained pit toilets. Fire pits are located at each site, and there is a large designated day-use area featuring picnic tables and a sandy beach perfect for launching a kayak or enjoying a lakeside lunch.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Water activities are the primary draw here, with the lake being popular for rainbow trout fishing and paddling. There is a boat launch available for visitors, though engine power is restricted to maintain the tranquility of the area. On land, travelers can explore several kilometers of forested hiking trails that wind through the woods and along the shoreline. For a change of pace, the nearby Purden Ski Village offers seasonal recreation, and the city of Prince George is within an hour's drive for full urban supplies.
Who This Park Is Best For
This destination is ideal for self-contained RVers who appreciate a rustic, off-the-grid feel without venturing too far off the beaten path. It is a fantastic choice for families looking for a safe, natural playground and for paddlers and anglers seeking calm, quiet waters. If you prefer the sound of wind through the trees over the hum of a busy resort, Purden Lake will provide the quiet solitude and natural beauty you are searching for during your northern BC travels.

About 45 min drive east of Prince George, this gorgeous lake is a hidden oasis. Arrive early to secure a picnic table. The camp grounds get full fast, so book ahead. The road is newly paved all the way down to the lake, so you don't have to worry about dirt roads and potholes. There is also a separate dog friendly beach area, fully fenced off & access to the water.

This lake is pne of the best lakes I habe ever been. beautiful scenes with lovely spots for gathering and also a great sand beach for kids to play on. I highly recommend if you have not been here. You can stay for a night (not at the beach side or parking area). There are so designated night camp areas that you can enjoy staying for a night there. Do not miss it in summer as this park is seasonal and you can not enjoy it after September and before May.

Wonderful campsite. Lots of space between spots. Quiet. Flush toilets. Wonderful beach, good boat launch, great dock, awesome playground. Would be nice if there were coin showers and power hookups (I hated hearing generator noise).

Located on Hwy 16 east of Prince George, BC this park is easy to find just off the Hwy. You will find a sani-dump with drinking water, boat launch, day use beach/picnic area with a dog beach and ample parking with room for RV’s. The campground has level sites, good tables, firepits, mature trees, and a modern all-access playground. No services in sites but good shade and cooler summer temperatures.

Beautiful! Sandy Beach, large picnic area, water was very clear. I did not go into the campsite area but assume that it would be up to the provinces usual standards - large sites, usually fairly private.
