Quail Creek
Overview
Quail Creek State Park serves as a vibrant desert oasis situated just outside Hurricane, Utah. This park is centered around a stunning reservoir known for having some of the warmest waters in the state, making it a premier destination for water-based recreation throughout much of the year. Framed by the striking contrast of orange sandstone and deep blue water, the park provides a scenic and tranquil setting for RV travelers looking to experience the unique geology of Southern Utah without the intense crowds often found in the neighboring national parks.
Location & Surroundings
Nestled in the shadows of the Red Cliffs National Conservation Area, the park is conveniently located near Interstate 15, yet it feels worlds away from the highway noise. The surrounding landscape is characterized by ancient volcanic rock and colorful sedimentary layers that glow at sunset. The park sits at an elevation that offers wide-open vistas of the surrounding valleys and the distant, jagged peaks of the Pine Valley Mountains. Its proximity to the town of Hurricane ensures that supplies and local dining are only a ten-minute drive away.
Amenities & Park Features
The campground at Quail Creek is designed to accommodate a variety of rigs with paved parking pads and a selection of sites offering power and water hookups. While individual sewer connections are not available, the park maintains a clean and accessible dump station for guest use. Each campsite is outfitted with a heavy-duty picnic table and a fire ring for evening gatherings. Additional facilities include modern restrooms, heated showers, and a multi-lane boat ramp that provides easy access for those traveling with jet skis or fishing boats.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
For many, this park is the ultimate base camp for exploring Zion National Park, which is located roughly 30 miles to the east. Locally, the reservoir is a haven for anglers seeking rainbow trout, largemouth bass, and crappie. On-site rentals for paddleboards and kayaks allow visitors to explore the hidden coves of the lake at their own pace. If you are looking for more adventure, the world-class golf courses of St. George and the extensive off-road vehicle trails at Sand Hollow are both within a twenty-minute drive.
Who This Park Is Best For
This park is an exceptional fit for water sports enthusiasts and active families who want to balance their hiking adventures with afternoons on the lake. It is also highly recommended for photographers and nature lovers who appreciate dramatic desert sunrises and the quietude of a state park setting. If you prefer a scenic and relaxed environment over the commercial bustle of a resort, Quail Creek offers a peaceful retreat that perfectly complements a Southern Utah road trip.

We spent the day at Quail Creek in Hurricane, Utah and had a blast paddleboarding! Just a heads-up—the beach is rocky, and when you step into the water it’s pretty mucky (my water shoes even got sucked off when I went in!). Once you’re out on the water though, it’s absolutely beautiful and peaceful. Overall, it turned into such a fun day with my hubby!

Incredible experience. It is so beautiful here. It’s all mountain and the lake is truly blue. We kayaked and it was so much fun. The pictures we got don’t it justice. You can spend the whole day here. It was surprisingly not busy when we went. Even the people that were there were surprised saying it’s usually much busier. You can do a lot here, camp, bike, swim, hike, boating, etc. if you ever visit Utah you need to stop by here for the day, it is well worth it.

Wr only had a 1 night stay but it was wonderful. Our RV spot was close to the water, in walking distance. The kids had a blast swimming. Quite and peaceful. Highly recommend.

Nice lake. Fee to enter main parking. There are spots along certain areas of the lake that you don’t have to pay. There is a place on location that rents kayaks, tubes…. Etc. There are a few boats and lots of people fishing.

Great place to paddle board. The day we were here there was no wind. Less crowded than sand Hollow for sure and the trees on the end was a nice surprise. The restrooms were clean and the staff was friendly. There are areas for you to have a picnic and easy access to the water in a few places for small kids or to deploy the paddle board. All in all we had a great time here. Will be back for sure.
