Quiet Lake

Overview

Quiet Lake is a quintessential Yukon wilderness destination located along the historic South Canol Road. It serves as a peaceful retreat for travelers looking to disconnect from modern life and immerse themselves in nature. The campground is situated on the largest of three connected lakes in the area, offering a true backcountry experience within the Yukon’s vast and rugged landscape. Visitors here can expect a quiet atmosphere where the sounds of the wind and water take center stage, far removed from the noise of more developed regions.

Location & Surroundings

Located approximately 98 kilometers north of Johnsons Crossing, the park is nestled deep within the scenic Pelly River Valley. The South Canol Road itself is a historic World War II-era route, providing a scenic but challenging journey through sub-alpine terrain and high mountain passes. The surroundings are characterized by dense boreal spruce forests and the crystal-clear, cold waters of Quiet Lake, which spans nearly 30 kilometers and is framed by the impressive peaks of the Big Salmon Mountains.

Amenities & Park Features

As a Yukon territorial campground, the facilities are designed to be simple, rugged, and functional for self-sufficient travelers. Visitors will find unserviced campsites that are well-spaced to provide a high degree of privacy. Each site is equipped with a sturdy picnic table and a heavy-duty fire ring for evening campfires. Essential features include:

  • A sturdy boat launch designed for easy lake access for motorized boats and canoes.
  • Hand-pumped water stations, though the water requires boiling or treatment before use.
  • Clean and well-maintained pit toilets located throughout the loops.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

The primary draw for visitors to this remote region is the water. Angling for lake trout, Arctic grayling, and northern pike is a world-class experience in these cold depths. The lake’s massive size makes it ideal for long-distance paddling or motorized boating adventures. Popular activities include:

  • Exploring the historic South Canol Road by vehicle for stunning vistas.
  • Paddling the calm waters of the Pelly River system adjacent to the park.
  • Unmatched wildlife photography opportunities, with frequent sightings of moose, caribou, and bears.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is best suited for the adventurous RVer who prioritizes solitude and natural beauty over modern conveniences. Because the South Canol Road is a narrow, winding gravel route, the park is best accessed by truck campers, smaller trailers, or rugged camper vans. It is the perfect destination for travelers seeking a complete digital detox and those who want to experience the authentic Yukon wilderness away from the more crowded highway corridors.

Absolutely amazing! the rooms for the motel section are a little small but very cozy, warm, inviting, and cutely decorated! We only stayed one night but they were so warm and welcoming to me and my family! their sweet little kitten was adorable to watch play while we checked in, and the older kitty came by the door later to the room to say hi. They were very accommodating to our doggos and our 3 rigs. Beautiful grounds and beautiful land! can't recomend them enough! we will stay here again if we get the chance!!!

The spot was perfect for us. Even though it's listed as closed, we called and booked a room for our hoteluser in the group. The campground is eclectic, full of half dead vehicles which personally I like to nosey around. Frank was there, lovely guy with a couple of little doggos. We were next to one permanent guy, also very friendly. A black bear was seen on the edge of the campground. We paid cash $30 for electric and dump 😀 super happy with this stopover, would definitely stay again. Be aware they are not selling fuel currently. I'd say would suit all size rig/RVs, good wide access.

Stopped here for gas and some snacks- the service was amazing and the staff super helpful! I forgot my wallet and they stayed up late so I could come back to get it! The shop is cute, the place looks like a great place to stay, and the staff is wonderful. The scones were DELICIOUS too! You have to stop by when you come through. We’ll be back!

Stayed here Thanksgiving weekend. They let us check in late. Very cozy, clean, and warm rooms. Most comfortable beds I've had my whole trip. The owner was very helpful giving us tips on our drive south. Unique and cute shop with good breakfast treats. Cheaper than staying in town. Great experience!

The owners are absolutely lovely. They went out of their way to help us out after we broke down near their lodge. The little shop is wonderful, by far the best gift shop type boutique I have ever seen. It had lots of items I would actually love to own, not just cheap trinkets. There is also a small bakery with homemade scones.
