Rainbow Falls/Rossport

Overview

Rainbow Falls Provincial Park - Rossport Campground offers a serene lakeside escape on the rugged north shore of Lake Superior. Unlike the busier inland section at Whitesand Lake, the Rossport site provides a smaller, more intimate setting for travelers looking to connect with the Great Lakes. This park serves as a premier gateway to the coast for those navigating the Trans-Canada Highway, offering a blend of natural beauty and essential comforts for the modern RVer seeking a peaceful retreat away from the crowds.

Location & Surroundings

Nestled directly on the edge of the Rossport Islands, the park boasts a dramatic landscape where the boreal forest meets the vast, cold waters of Lake Superior. The nearby town of Rossport is a quaint, historic fishing village often referred to as the gem of the north shore. The local environment is defined by smooth rocky shorelines and crystal-clear water, providing a tranquil and contemplative backdrop that feels worlds away from the hustle of urban life while remaining easily accessible.

Amenities & Park Features

The Rossport campground features several electrical sites suitable for various RV sizes, though operators of larger rigs should navigate the loops with care to find the best fit. While facilities at this specific location are more rustic, guests have access to vault toilets and communal water filling stations. A short drive to the Whitesand Lake section provides access to full comfort stations with hot showers. The standout feature of this location is the direct access to a beautiful cobble beach, perfect for evening strolls.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Outdoor enthusiasts can explore the Casque Isles Trail, a world-class hiking destination that winds through the rugged shoreline terrain and offers stunning vistas. The eponymous Rainbow Falls are located just a few kilometers away in the neighboring park section, featuring an impressive boardwalk that leads to multiple viewing platforms over the cascading water. For those with watercraft, the calm waters protected by the nearby islands offer some of the best sea kayaking and canoeing opportunities in Northern Ontario.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is ideal for nature lovers and photographers who prioritize breathtaking scenery and direct water access over resort-style amenities. It caters exceptionally well to cross-country travelers needing a high-quality overnight stay or coastal kayakers wanting a basecamp for exploring the archipelago. If you enjoy the rhythmic sound of waves hitting the shore and a quiet, rustic atmosphere, the Rossport section of Rainbow Falls is a perfect fit for your travel style.

Another classic campground on Lake Superior. Amazing sunsets. Great beach trail. Nice and tidy! The campground is split into two. We stayed at the Rossport area on the lake shore.

Super nice campground, view is stunning and everything was clean. Only annoying thing was we showed up at like 630pm and the office was already closed, so we had to go online see what sites are available, pick a site that way, then go back online and sign up with Ontario parks camping or whatever it's called, book the site and then pay online. Yet, there was an Ontario parks supervisor roaming the grounds allllll night up until like 10pm. Why couldn't they book us in and make it easier? Idk. Not a big deal just took us and another couple guys like 15-20 minutes to figure out how to pay.

Beautiful spot. Quietest Ontario Parks campground I've ever been in & it was a busy place the Friday & Saturday of the Labour Day long weekend! Lots of sheltered, wooded sites that are fairly well protected from the wind. We only saw 1 of the 2 beaches. But it was an excellent sandy spot to bring the kids.

nice park for stop over,be aware the website will stop booking at 5pm, the park mentioned for 10pm close does not relate to real registration time, the 1:15pm opening on the window is not real for long weekend. Bath and washroom is clean, quiet campsite, great view for campsite and day use area

Beautiful beach. Sites are a bit on the small size. Somewhat on top of each other as well. 41'+ long campers need not apply.
