I have no base for comparison so here it goes.... A good friend and I were trekking around CO and she took me here for a hike/overnight campout. I live in MN so I'd never really hiked a mountain before 🤣 it.... Was.... Awesome! We trekked up the mountains to high enough that there were no trees, they slowly just disappeared. I learned that higher elevation prevents vegetation and foliage growth. I thought the trail would never end, and every time we stopped to look around the said "but if we keep going it gets better!!!!" She wasn't lying. We kept going, her fearless fluff nugget Rajah leading the way, and i was equally as exhausted as I was excited. We had a bit of a late start, and I'm not much of a hiker and I was also a smoker at the time, so I'm guessing between all those factors we could have kept going and it'd keep getting better.... Alas, we stopped and decided it was time to head back down. It was an amazing experience and I hope to come back again soon!

Rainbow Lakes and the Campground was gorgeous! A very clean campground with bathrooms. The campground is first come first serve so ideally head up in the morning during a weekday. The sites are great for small campers and Vans as well as easy tent setups. The road to the trailhead and campground is a bit rough so probably best to head up in an suv with AWD at least. We did see a handful of sedans that made it up so it is definitely possible but I wouldn't necessarily recommend it. The trail to the lakes has a bit of ascent but overall is quite easy. Overall this place is definitely worth the trip up. Be sure to stop in Ward or Nederlands on the way back for some good food!

We couldn't stay at the campground because it's first come first serve. But we drove through and it looked amazing. Clean bathrooms clean sites and close to hiking. Beautiful hiking trail. No trashcan! Bri g a trash bag. Please don't throw your trash on the ground. It does get windy and super sunny. Pack sunscreen and bug spray. The flies were pretty bad. The lady at the camp ground was super nice. And there were some park ladies that gave us some directions also super friendly. Rainbow lakes is a good hike for kids. It's challenging but not to long. It does get rocky in some areas. Gotta love Colorado. It is also kinda a long windy drive to get there. Not good if you get car sick. We also did the 505 4 wheel trail. It's no joke. Honestly unless you have a huge vehicle and know what you're doing I wouldn't try it. Lots of other camping close by too.

Lovely, but popular campground. It's great if you can get a site. Campground host is pleasant and helpful

We came for hiking and didn't stay the night, so I can't comment on camping facilities, but we had a great time exploring the woods, streams, and lakes! We were a few days late for really good mushroom hunting, but definitely found enough for dinner even with mostly finding aspens. Campers were friendly and we met some nice folks after our hike too.

A wonderful campground. Tim and Barkley were phenomenal! A great campground host. He always made sure to come by and say hi everyday. He provided a gallon of water for the fire every night. He even brought wood over for us. The bathrooms are cleaned twice a day and always stocked with T.P.

Great campground! We drive a class C 24-ft Freedom Elite. The drive in is manageable but you have to go at about 2 mph on certain parts of the road which is definitely time-consuming. It gets kind of tricky at some parts where the road is one lane and you have vehicles trying to pass going opposite direction. Remember when someone's passing by to fold in your mirror. Definitely worth it. Great campground host. We saw plenty of trailers and tent campers there. No cell phone service. Which might be the best part.

Busy but it was great due to the wonderful camp host, Tim. He was friendly, informative and helpful. He helped us find the perfect campsite for our set up. He kept things clean and even provided solar lights in the restroom at night! The majority of campers were respectful of quiet hours and pretty clean. We appreciated that bear boxes are at every site.
