Rangeley Lake
Overview
Rangeley Lake State Park offers a quintessential Maine woods experience on the southern shore of one of the state's most famous bodies of water. Known for its crystal-clear blue water and the surrounding mountain silhouettes, this park provides a serene escape for RV travelers seeking a deep connection with nature. Whether you are visiting for the world-renowned fishing or the peaceful forest atmosphere, this destination serves as a primary gateway to the vast and rugged western Maine wilderness.
Location & Surroundings
Nestled within the high peaks of Maine, the park occupies a prime location that feels remote yet remains accessible for modern travelers. The surrounding landscape is defined by rolling hills and dense evergreen forests that transform into a vibrant tapestry of color during the autumn months. From the shoreline, visitors can enjoy a stunning view of Saddleback Mountain, which dominates the northern horizon across the lake. The nearby town of Rangeley provides a charming historical backdrop with local shops and essential supplies located just a short drive from the park entrance.
Amenities & Park Features
While the park favors a rustic camping style over a resort atmosphere, it provides essential facilities for a comfortable stay. There are 50 well-spaced campsites that can accommodate RVs up to 35 feet, though travelers should note that there are no electric or water hookups available at the sites. To support self-contained rigs, the park provides a convenient dump station and potable water access. Guests also have access to a modern bathhouse with hot showers, a dedicated swimming area with a playground, and a sturdy concrete boat launch for those bringing their own watercraft.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
The area is a paradise for those who love the outdoors and traditional sporting activities. Rangeley Lake is famous for its landlocked salmon and brook trout fishing, attracting anglers from across the country throughout the season. A short drive will take you to the Height of Land, a scenic overlook on the Rangeley Lakes Scenic Byway offering one of the most photographed views in New England. For hikers, the nearby Cascade Stream Gorge provides beautiful waterfalls, while several access points to the Appalachian Trail are located within easy reach of the park.
Who This Park Is Best For
This park is an ideal choice for nature photographers and wildlife enthusiasts who hope to spot a moose or bald eagle in their natural habitat. Because there are no utility hookups, it is best suited for adventurous RVers who enjoy dry camping and appreciate a quieter, more traditional camping environment away from the noise of the city. If you prioritize breathtaking sunset views and waterfront access over luxury resort-style amenities, Rangeley Lake State Park is a perfect match for your travel style.

The resort is definitely different from what I'm used to. But, I usually travel to the Caribbean. The unit was well maintained, clean, and well equipped. The resort is just outside the main town and quiet. There is an indoor pool with 2 hot tubs. The lake is just down the road. But there is no direct access to the lake as lake front is privately owned. There is no restaurant on site. But, you don't need it. There's plenty of choices within a 5 minute ride. There's also a grocery store within a walk or very short ride. If you like lake activities summer and winter this is a great home base.

Was in town for a wedding and found this gem of a place to stay. Absolutely beautiful and Very cozy. Has everything you would need. Store close by. My only complaint is the same as others, the main lodge closes early so no swimming or recreation area after 6 or 7 depending on the day. But still overall I loved it!!

Light comes in the skylight and shines on the head of the bed. Could not sleep past 5am. Bisssll had tons of dog hair in it. Had to purchase brook and mop. Do not clean between weeks. We were there for 2 weeks. If you need extra toilet paper (etc), must go to office to get it during 2nd week. Swimming pool and hot tub is closed when the office is closed. The office is closed at 6pm and opens at 9am.
