Raymond B Winter
Overview
Raymond B Winter State Park, affectionately known as Halfway by locals, offers a serene mountain retreat within the rugged landscapes of central Pennsylvania. The park is centered around the picturesque Halfway Lake, which is fed by cold, spring-fed mountain streams. This destination is steeped in history, featuring the first cement-stone masonry dam built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the United States, providing a timeless atmosphere for campers seeking a genuine connection with nature.
Location & Surroundings
Tucked away in the scenic Bald Eagle State Forest, the park is situated on a high mountain plateau approximately 18 miles west of Lewisburg. Its elevation provides a refreshing escape from summer heat, surrounded by an expansive white pine and hemlock forest. The transition from the rolling farmland of Mifflinburg to the steep, rocky ridges of the park creates a dramatic approach for RVers who enjoy scenic mountain drives through the Susquehanna River Valley.
Amenities & Park Features
The campground features 61 sites tailored for those who appreciate a traditional outdoor experience. While the park maintains a rustic vibe, it offers several essential features for RV travelers:
- Electric hookups available at approximately half of the campsites.
- Access to a sanitary dump station and potable water.
- Modern restrooms equipped with flush toilets and warm showers.
The park also provides multiple picnic areas and a large beach area with white sand, making it easy for families to spend the day by the water without leaving the grounds.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Outdoor enthusiasts will find over six miles of diverse hiking trails within the park, with direct access to the vast trail network of the surrounding state forest. Fishing is a popular pastime, as the lake and nearby streams are regularly stocked with brown and rainbow trout. Beyond the park boundaries, visitors can explore the historic Mifflinburg Buggy Museum or travel to nearby Lewisburg for unique boutique shopping and local dining options along the Susquehanna River.
Who This Park Is Best For
This park is ideal for nature photographers and families who prefer the quiet rustle of leaves over the hum of a crowded resort. It is a perfect fit for RVers who travel in smaller to mid-sized rigs and enjoy mountain-style camping with the convenience of nearby bathhouses. If you are looking for a place to unplug, recharge, and enjoy the simplicity of the Pennsylvania wilds, Raymond B Winter provides a quiet and refreshing atmosphere.

This is such a fun place to camp! We were at site 42, and it was the perfect quiet place to tent camp. The picture here is the view we enjoyed for our entire stay. It was so peaceful. This site has a few steps up from the car to where you actually camp, but it felt very private even though the campground was pretty full. We enjoyed hiking around and dipping out toes in the lake. I wish we could've stayed longer to enjoy the beach and the seasonal concession stand there.

What a great experience! We camped (not an RV owner). Sites are smaller. Difficult to fit 2x3person tents. But, the picnic tables are good sized. There is a good fire pit and hanger for lantern. Parking accomodations cover 1 car at camp. Second car in a nearby lot. Hot showers and clean bathrooms. In July, I needed a warm long sleeve pullover while sitting outside at night. Trash easy to reach on foot. The beach is sandy. Interesting, the entire beach is really a giant spring that feeds the pond. Water is colder year round. Slushies at the beach store! Plenty of hiking but I recommend good maps. 15min East of camp is an independent ice cream store next to a stream. Wawa /gas / ice along 15, also east of camp. Weis (along15) has good dry firewood for lower prices. MidState trail passes by.

Spectacularly beautiful park with a nice beach etc. Campground was really nice and the forest is pristine with clear babbling creek flowing through. Be prepared for zero cell service- which is fine. Bathrooms were WET.. soaked floors..

Great park! The beach is clean, has a four person volleyball net, bathrooms, and a small foot washing station. There is a swinging bench as well as two playgrounds, several picnic benches and pavilions, as well as a snack bar which is open in the summer. The snack bar has good food and great ice cream as well as a cute seating area, although the prices are a bit high. The Rapid Run Nature Trail and associated Shrouded Forest pamphlet are great, an easy hike but through a very beautiful place.

We just wrapped up our camping weekend at RB Winter and it was perfect. Such a beautiful park you don't really need to leave. The hiking/biking trails are great for beginners to more advanced and the beach makes for amazing sunsets. The campground educator, Rebekah I think, was great. I really enjoyed her programming. A+!!!
